I don't think there's a single deal I'd be genuinely happy about. I've been following his career since I was like 14, so Votto may very well be my last totally irrational sports hero. I hang on every at bat, revel in every opposite field smash, go through momentary heartbreak in the rare instance he's fooled by a changeup. I've seen some great players, but there's just something fascinating about Votto's character that makes me feel like I'm watching something that speaks beyond baseball. I wanna see him hang up the spikes in Red and I don't think Posey, Trout, or anyone else could change that. (Unless of course Trout finally embraces fancy coffees)

I'm not sure how Jocketty could say no to Trout for Votto.

I'd do Profrar, Olt, and Darvish.

    I'd do Strasburg and Harper.

I'd do Trout and Jared Weaver.

I don't believe any of those teams would do those deals, however.

This might sound crazy, but even with Trout being cheap for a few more years, I think Votto over the next ten years will be cheaper than Trout, the way salaries are headed. For that reason, I'd rather have Votto.

Two reasons, I think. One, Votto is Jeter level for the Reds. Worth more to the franchise than his stats alone. Two, you'd be taking on a good amount of risk there. Lots more certainty with Votto than Trout.

Kinda surprised no one would trade him for peanuts just to get rid of his contract. If you don't like the contract (and I believe many don't) it's fair to want to do so.

Only if they threw in Matt Cain. Joey is already a GAB monster.

Mike Trout would do it for me. Other than him, there is no one I'd consider dealing for Votto straight-up in MLB. But if the Angels come calling and dangling Trout, you have to do it.

Yeah, I think I get it too.

Anyone want to take a guess as to how much Trout/Harper will make over the duration of Votto's contract?

Lets say they aren't super twos, so they hit arbitration after 2014, and they are MVP talent every year.

    2013-14 $2M total
    2015 $10M
    2016 $14M
    2017 $19M
    2018 $30M
    2019 $30M
    2020 $35M
    2021 $35M
    2022 $35M
    2023 $40M
    2024 $40M

That's $290. I could be wrong, but with the TV money, this might actually be low. Lol

Votto is due $257M over the same time period, if the Reds pick up his 2024 option.
