up to 5 years and 70M. It's hard not to like Swish; and now that he's out of NY it's even easier.
He'll obviously take Choo's spot. Brantley, Stubbs and Swisher looks like the 2012 Indians OF.

I'm glad for Nick. I grew up with him and he is a great guy. Ohio born and West Virginia raised, Cleveland is a good home for him geographically. I wish him the best of luck except for when he plays the Reds.
The Indians overpaid and then some for him IMO. I like Swish, but he's 32 and his numbers are likely in for a decline. And his numbers aren't all that great on average to begin with. He's a good player, but nothing more. This coming from an Ohio State fan. $14 million/year for 4 years (maybe 5) is a lot of money for Swisher at his age.
Man, I know Cleveland disperately wanted a bat for the OF, but I think they're going to regret this deal. Potential albotross.
Every time one of these deals get signed, Votto and Phillips become a better bargain.

Isn't that where he started?

I know Choo is in the last year of his contract, but spending this money would have made more sense if they kept Choo, esp. when his replacement is Stubbs. Perhaps they coveted the arm in the deal enough, but it seems like so much tail chasing.

True, I see the Indians in rebuild mode though.
They are supposedly shopping Caberra, Masterson, and Perez too.
Last year was a colossal disappointment, so I can see more player movement.
I think they are going to get worse before they get better.
So I guess I feel Swisher is at least throwing the fans a bone and filling the void by the Choo trade.
But yea, I agree.. doubt any dividends will be seen in 2013.

"This isn’t stats vs scouts - this is stats and scouts working together, building an organization that blends the best of both worlds. This is the blueprint for how a baseball organization should be run. And, whether the baseball men of the 20th century like it or not, this is where baseball is going."---Dave Cameron, U.S.S. Mariner

The Indians have enough talent to rebuild while being presentable. I guess I don't see a complete need to totally go with rookies while rebuilding. Also, isn't there a new rule that says if you spend below a certain threshold, you lose revenue sharing (not sure when that rule takes place).
I'm guessing they hope they will be relevant before Swisher's deal expires.
I think if Choo was willing to sign for Swisher money, they would've extended him. Isn't the rumor that Choo wants 20 million/year or something outrageous like that.. Or perhaps Choo was going to test the market no matter what the Indians offered.
