    D'Backs to sign Cody Ross

We no longer have a real need for OF's, but I still wouldn't mind liberating Gerardo Parra from them. Wonder if the Snakes could use a middle reliever or two?

How much better than Heisey is Parra?

If you go by OPS+, Heisey's career numbers are slightly better. If you go by wRC+, it's even more pronounced.

Defensively, Parra's undoubtedly better, though the different defensive measurements disagree as to how much.

On the basepaths, Heisey is obviously better.

If it seems that I'm again banging the drum for Heisey, I am. In nearly 1000 career ABs, he's a slightly better than league average bat who's proven capable of playing off the bench and providing power and baserunning acumen, two oft-overlooked components of a bench player.

I still don't understand why the Reds gave this guy away so easily. Seems like he had some value then -- and he certainly does now.

Reds weren't the only ones, they got him for a PTBNL.

    He was no Quentin McCracken.

He had very little value back then.

Not sure who has had the stranger offseason, the Diamondbacks or the BoSox, but it's close.
