    Re: Jacksonville Jaguars 2013 Thread

First of all for those of you who think the Jags are going to LA. No one here seriously believes or is threatened by that. And it's kind of old news.

Jags have not had a game blacked out since 2009.
When teams had a chance to lower the percentage of tix that must be sold to avoid a blackout the Jags did NOT do that.
    Jags did this despite being

Jags were 20th in attendance out of 32 teams despite being one of the smallest markets, and having a stadium that even with tarps is 24th biggest ahead of teams like Chicago, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Detroit, etc. And despite having a generally crappy team for about 10 years.

And as far as Khan being an intrusive owner, I don't think that holds water. In only one area can Khan be said to have intruded and that is in regards to Tebow. And that has been put to bed. As he said in an interview after the Caldwell press conference, 'he expressed an interest, his football people said to go another direction, and he let his football people make the decision."

And as far as coaching/GM moves, Wayne Weaver is the one who fired the previous Coach Del Rio and extended the GM (Harris). Khan let the GM pick the Coach.

After a 2-14 season, he correctly decided to relieve the GM. He kept the Coach, until the new GM indicated he wanted a new coach. Again he went along with the football people.

And off the field, he's stated he intends to raise the media level of the Jags and make them an international brand. He volunteered them for Hard Knocks, and signed them up to be the London NFL team the next 4 years.

He's spent his own money to upgrade the stadium sound system and the locker roon is supposed to be the best in the NFL.

Now we just have to start winning some games....

    Re: Jacksonville Jaguars 2013 Thread

It's been a couple months since the last Jags update. Here's what went down: There was fairly wide speculation that new GM Dave Caldwell would hire his buddy Dave Roman as the new GM. But with the 49's going deep in the playoffs, the Jags got Seattle DC Gus Bradley.

When Chip Kelly turned down Philly, Bradley was their next target. They were so close to a deal that many reported it was done. Then Kelly changed his mind, Bradley interviewed the next day in Jax, he and Caldwell developed man crushes and the rest is history.

The Caldwell/Bradley duo has been very well received by the national media as 2 rising stars that other teams wanted, and that should be able to do a good job in Jacksonville.

One thing has become clear. They intend to really start fresh. Knowing that.... Mularkey never stood a chance. Besides getting a new coach, the Jags changed 16 of 18 assistant coaches. (They've also made big time changes on the business side of things).

And now they are starting to clear out the players. Over the last week, the Jags have released 3 guys (Whimper, Wilson, King) that were one 1 year deals, 2 guys that had recently signed multi-year deals (Landry and Ross), and released long time Jag Rashean Mathis.

They informed 6 restricted FA's that they would not tender offers to them, making them unrestricted FA's: Bolen, Shipley, Potter, Estes, Selvie and Bosworth.

And they have not re-signed any of the guys who were already unrestricted FA's: Cox, Smith, Jones, Middleton, Chick, Knighton, Palmer, Britton, Meester, Jennings, Parmele.

Caldwell has stated that he does not intend to be a big player in FA intending to build thru the draft. There have been plenty of hints that Jags will wait for the smoke to clear over the big names and wait for bargains to appear.

Bradley has said that they will probably have a season like Seattle had a few years ago where they made 280 player transactions. They'll continually churn the roster (especially the bottom) to see if they can find guys a little better then someone on their roster.

So.....stay tuned for more changes in Jax.

Forbes magazine did an interview with Khan. It's a VERY interesting look into an organization.

    Re: Jacksonville Jaguars 2013 Thread

Well, we are on the verge of the NFL season. In March we were far and away the worst team in the NFL. We had the worst record and then we cut half the team. I have almost a sense of satisfaction in that. This was it. This was rock bottom.

And now we start the road back.

Owner: We have a new owner in Shad Khan. You really should read the Forbes article if you haven't. It was very interesting. I think in 3 or 4 years Khan will be one of the top 2 or 3 "name" owners in the league.

He absolutely wants to make the Jags a big name nationally/internationally. He's signed us up to be the London Home team for the next 4 years. And the Jags are making a big push there. They have a UK based fan club called the Union Jax that now has over 10,000 members.

He's pouring his money into the Jacksonville Stadium. He's spent over 10 million making the locker room and weight room the best in the NFL. He's upgraded the sound system, and next season the Jags will have the worlds largest scoreboards.

He's changed the logo, the helmets and the uniforms.

He made the right moves on the football side. The former owner had a ton of faith in the GM and extended him right before he sale. That GM said they were on the verge, instead they went 2-14. And so he made a change to one of the hottest (if not the hottest) upcoming GM candidates and gave him full reign.

GM Dave Caldwell - This was Khans first choice. He was interviewing Caldwell in Atlanta 5 hours after he fired GM Smith. On the day of his hiring Caldwell basically announced that Tim Tebow was never coming here. Establishing a few things in addition. This was not a guy afraid to make decisions.

We thought he was going to hire his buddy as Head Coach, but instead he went with Gus Bradley. He took a 2-14 roster and started cutting guys left and right. In the draft, he said they were going after speed guys and after drafting the consensus #1 player in Luke Joeckel, all the rest of the picks were speed guys.

A safety at 2, a CB at 3, WR at 4, a "speed weapon" (Denard Robinson) at 5, a safety at 6 and 2 CB's with 2 7th rounders. They didn't like any of the QB's even though they had plenty of chances to get one.

They dipped sparingly into free agency, getting solid starters and not flashy expensive talent. In future years the Jags will have plenty of money.

Head Coach Gus Bradley: Bradley was contacted by several teams including SD and Cleveland but he didn't like the fit. He was the Eagles 2nd choice after Chip Kelly and it seemed like he was a shoe-in there. But the Eagles waited over night (probably because the Kelly talks were back on), and the Jags sent a plane to Philly to bring Bradley to Jax.

Once he met with Caldwell, the 2 meshed instantly and Bradley and Khan did as well. Hafway thru the day Bradley was sure Jax was the job he wanted, and since Kelly signed with Philly, everyone got what they wanted.

Bradley pretty much cleaned house on the assistants. 16 of the 18 are new. The Jags had been incredibly boring and vanilla on offense the last few years. The new offensive coordinator is from U of Miami but also has a ton of pro experience including a year at Seattle with Gus. He talks a good game about opening up the offense.

Bradley is uber-enthusiastic. And preaches that they will continually get better. In the first pre-season game the Jags pretty much stunk it up. But guess what? They looked a little bit better every game.

So...it's long road back. But watch out. We're on the way

You're one of the few. It's been shown that the Jaguars have the lowest draw in the NFL when on the road.

Either the Chiefs are amazing, or Jacksonville is going to have another really high draft pick next year.

The Jags are going to be really bad this year....lucky to win 2 games I think. Blaine Gabbert seems like a good kid and works really hard and genuinely wants to get better. But he's just awful. He's not Jamarcus Russell bad, but he's not that far off. Several people at the sports bar today were wondering aloud why they didn't draft EJ Manuel.

I'd say you'll have a shot at Teddy Bridgewater who will be a better QB than Manuel.

The Jags just are that bad, I was serious when I said they took the worst team in the league and then chopped it in half. And yes, Blaine looked as bad as ever. He'll be out this week and maybe next week. And not the starter next year.

Henne starts this week, but no one expects Henne to be anything more than a backup. I'd like to see if Stanzi has anything at some point.

Bradley's mantra is continual improvement. To just get a little better all the time. Well, he's got a phenomenal starting point. It's hard not to get better this week. So here's to gradual improvement.
