My sister lives a block of two from Scout. Apparently, the team went down there for breakfast yesterday morning and then they went out last night and celebrated. She sent me a few pics:

Free agency is underway, the big moves so far:

Claude Giroux and the Flyers have finalized an eight-year contract that will pay Giroux a total of $66.2 million.

The Detroit Red Wings have signed Daniel Alfredsson to a one-year/$5.5 million contract including bonuses.

Edmonton Oilers have signed Andrew Ference to a four-year/$13 million contract.

Mike Ribeiro has agreed to terms with the Phoenix Coyotes.

Big trade between the Bruins and Stars as well last night.

Any of you Blue Jacket fans think Horton will land in Columbus?

I'm very surprised that Alfie left Ottawa. He's the kind of signing Detroit always maximizes that other teams would regret.

    Re: NHL 2013

I think we are going to need another lockout with some of these contracts!

Horton gets 7 years despite having a bum shoulder and numerous injuries over the past 5 years. I'm glad Columbus got a player happy to come to them, but a shame they have to sign him for that term to make it happen.

Canes Agree to Terms with Komisarek on One-Year Deal

RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Mike Komisarek (koh-mih-SAIR-ehk) on a one-year contract. The deal will pay Komisarek $700,000 during the 2013-14 season.

“Mike faced different circumstances and expectations in Toronto than he will in Carolina, and we feel that he has a better chance to succeed with our team,” said Rutherford. “He adds size, physicality and leadership qualities to our defensive corps, and is a good penalty killer.”

Canes Agree to Terms with Anton Khudobin

RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with goaltender Anton Khudobin (AN-tawn khuh-DAW-bihn) on a one-year contract. The deal will pay Khudobin $800,000 for the 2013-14 season.

“Anton proved to be a very capable NHL backup for the Bruins last year,” said Rutherford. “This solidifies an elite goaltending tandem for the Hurricanes.”

Khudobin, 27, went 9-4-1 with a 2.32 goals-against average and .920 save percentage in 14 games with the Boston Bruins during the 2012-13 season. Originally from Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan, he also appeared in 26 games for Atlant Moscow Oblast of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) during the NHL work stoppage, going 6-14-4 with a 2.96 goals-against average and .912 save percentage in 26 games played.

Jarome Iginla signs with the Bruins! This is a real shocker after he declined a trade to them in March.

It also appears the Bruins have signed Chad Ochocinco to backup Rask.

Actually, the Bruins signed a goalie named Chad Johnson.

Ilya Kovalchuk has retired, and has just left a lot of money on the table.
