    Minor League Updates: Sunday 5/05/2013

    Cinco de Mayo Edition:

Dayton is playing Kane County and has one hit in their first five trips to the plate. Zach Vincej is now hitting .250 as he has the lone single.
Drew Cisco has been uncharacteristically wild. He has walked through in four innings. He has also allowed six hits. He has struck out two while limiting the opposition to just one run.

Dayton trails 1-0 midway through the game. Dayton loses 2-0.

Beau Amaral had two outfield assists.
The bullpen pitched three scoreless frames - Peralta two, Lucas one.
Cisco was blah. Two earned runs in five hits despite having baserunners on all game long, nine hits and three walks in five innings. Vincej had two hits, raising his average to .255.

Louisville is a little good news, bad news.

Good news they have pounded out a pair of roundtrippers - Perez #4, Hessman #7.
Bad news is they have collected more errors than roundtrippers -3 to 3=2.
Daniel Corcino has been roughed up again, albeit with little help from his defenders.
    5IP 8H 7R 4ER 1BB 1K 1HR.
Hessman and Perez each have a single to go along with their home run.

Bats trail 8-2. Bats lose 8-2.

Bad news: Hamilton, Rodriguez and Sota bat 1-2-3 and go 0 for 12. Ouch.
Good news: Corcino threw strikes. 84 pitches, 52 strikes. Corcino got a lot of ground outs. 9/2 GO/FO.

Bakersfield will send Jacob (Jake) Johnson (8.02) to the mound. And isn't it appropriate that a team with a fish as its mascot (Pensacola) has both a Shark(y) and a Crab(be) in its starting rotation? Soft Shell (2.93) will go for the Blue Fish later on this afternoon.

There hasn't been a lot of great news coming from the farm and top prospects so far this season. Fortunately there haven't been significant injuries...yet.

Hamilton, Corcino, and Guillon have all been terrible.
Stephenson, Yorman and Lutz have just been OK.
The bright spots (Cisco and Rogers) aren't exactly prospect that light your socks on fire.

It's still very early, no need to be too concerned yet. But if things don't improve over the next month -specifically for Hamilton, Corcino, and Guillon- they will start to become official "concerns."

*There is also Cingrani and Winker, who have continued to dazzle. So things aren't all bad.

Sal Romano looks pretty good so far.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

That's true - he's a good looking prospect and he has been pretty good so far, although I would like to see a better K rate.
