Nobody believes Mike Brown does everything he can in his power to win. He is stubborn as the day is long. He has a current philosophy in regards to FA and he is for better or worse sticking to that plan.
If you have a losing record at Reds games, please stop going.
I think there are quite a few teams that have the same philosophy when it comes to FA. The days of making huge impact signings in FA are over, at least for good teams. Most of the wiser teams build through the draft and use FA to add role players for a reasonable price. In fact, I'd say the better teams use the FA market to find some cheap young talent that never got a chance with their previous team and are given a shot to prove themselves. When I think of teams with a history of making big moves in the FA market, I think of perennial losers like the Browns and Raiders, and it's usually because they did a poor job in the draft. The teams that draft well always seem to trade away guys and stock up on more draft picks.

Carson Palmer's now an Arizona Cardinal. I know they had injury problems and whatnot on their line but that line was ugly last year. If it doesn't improve substantially, Carson's going to get pummeled and he won't last 13 games. They play in a division that gets after the QB with teams like SF and Sea. I think Oak was a much better fit for Carson
I know they didn't give up much of anything to get him, but sheesh. I saw all the stories regarding him dining with Cardinal executives and I just thought about what that conversation was like;
Executive: "Now I know you've postured your way off of two separate teams, and one of them got better the minute you left, but you won't do anything like that here right?"
Carson: "Oh no, I'm definitely the most team oriented guy I can think of. Whatever makes the team better, even if it's leaving. Actually especially if it's leaving."
Bengals picked up John Skelton off waivers.
Bengals not budging on Smith, and Smith and his agent not budging on their asking price. Looks more and more like Anthony Collins will be the starting RT this season.
This according to Reedy and Pro Football Talk. I have to agree that 9 million per season is way too much for Smith. I thought he would settle in at around 7 million per buts he and his agent have not moved an inch off there demands. No other team currently interested in Smith which says a lot about what he wants.

People can rip on Palmer, and he definitely deserves it, but I would be surprised if he doesn't have a good year for the Cardinals. He had nothing around him in Oakland. McFadden was hurt the majority of the time Palmer was there, and the receiving corps was both young and composed of below average talent. Larry Fitzgerald is going to love Carson
Then I'd be the only one and I'd have the top rated RT from last year again. Especially with the cap room we always have.
James Harrison has probably been my most hated player in the NFL over the past years, and he's now visiting the Bengals. For me, it would feel like Yadi joining the Reds. But as dirty as I would feel, I would be happy to welcome him at the right price.

Mike Brown's M.O. is simple.
In a league of unprecedented parity, Mike Brown runs a barebones NFL franchise, with the sole purpose of extracting as much money as possible out of the NFL and Hamilton County taxpayers.
It's pretty much that simple. And it's no coincidence that the Bengals last playoff win was 23 years ago, the very year Mike Brown took over.
And the best part is, because of the NFL's Collective Bargaining Agreement, whether the stadium is full or completely empty, Mike Brown ALWAYS gets 1/32 of the NFL Owner's cut, every year, every time.
From a Philosophical standpoint, Mike Brown is EXACTLY why Socialism doesn't work. Because there will always be someone who just wants to milk the system and that person will ruin it for everyone else.
But yeah... I'm sure Mike Brown is "doing all he can"...It's just been that "darn bad luck" for the past 23 years.
The next time anyone here shells out 2 or 3 hundred for a game, and they are sitting through the opening game animation that hasn't changed in 15 years, or wondering why there is no halftime show, put your minds at ease. Because Mike Brown is "really doing all that he can."

Signing James Harrison five years ago would be like signing Yadi.
