The Braves get Upton and third baseman Chris Johnson for third baseman Martin Prado, right-hander Randall Delgado, shortstop prospect Nick Ahmed and right-handed pitching prospect Zeke Spruill, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports
Ummm...this is the Diamondbacks getting raped, right? Sheesh! #6 and #10 prospects in the Braves system.

Minor league first baseman Brandon Drury to 'zona as well. #13 brave prospect. Getting a bit better.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. Prado is a nice upgrade for Arizona, but he's a year away from free agency, and so I can't really see how it makes much sense to move Upton (a younger player with more years of team control) for him.

Prado's a nifty player to have for 2 more years. Plus the upside of Delgado. Prado had 42 doubles last year.

They replace Chipper Jones, Michael Bourn and Martin Prado with BJ and Justin Upton and Francisco/Johnson at 3b. It feels to me like they are fighting to just tread water, unless they really didn't like Prado's defense.

edit: I see it's just one year of Prado.

The DBacks soured on Upton that is for sure. The big question is which Justin Upton are you getting? The 141 OPS+ guy of 2011 or the 107 OPS+ guy of 2012?

I kinda like this deal from the DBacks side. I think Prado is an under rated player who can play all over and knows how to find 1b. You have the upside of a 22 year old Delgado along with the minor league players that I don't know enough about.

I am interested to see how this works out for the Braves. Borne and Prado were prototypical #1 and #2 hitters. Now they have a bunch of guys who look like 5 hole hitters. May be a boom or bust lineup next year for the Braves.

Pimps and rapes? Sounds just like a baseball trade to me.

D-Backs get Prado, RH pitcher Randall Delgado, SS prospect Nick Ahmed, RH pitcher prospect Zeke Spruell, and 1B prospect Brandon Drury.

Drury batted .229 in A-ball last year in 123 games.
Ahmed batted .269 in high A in 130 games.
    Spruill had 27 starts in double A with a 3.69 e.r.a. and 9-11 record.
Delgado went 4-9 for the Braves and he's only 22 years old.

I'm not that impressed and think the D-Backs got screwed.

D-Backs fans can't be thrilled right now. They hated the trade that brought them Reds prospect Didi Gregorius, too. It almost seems like they're interested in getting 'their' guys regardless of market value.

What would it have taken for the Reds to get him (assuming they needed an outfielder)

The closest guys the Reds have to Prado is Frazier. Bruce would have been too much, Heisey too little.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.
