    Reds sign Cesar Izturis

I haven't seen any mention of the Reds signing Cesar Izturis, but I was looking at the Reds official roster and noticed Izturis listed on the non roster invitees for Spring Training. He's a quality defensive shortstop, not a bad little depth signing.

I can't believe they didn't hold a press conference to announce this

(Referencing Van Der Walls signing years ago, during the dark times)
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

His Wiki page says that he's a member of our organization but no mention of a signing. Oh well. Nice to have him. We do need a SS

This report says that the Jays signed him back in November. Hope it's wrong and the Reds have him.

I feel like they signed the other Izturis, they being the Jays.

The Jays signed Maicer, and then it was reported that they signed Cesar, but that report was not accurate.

That link actually explains that the Jays signed both guys thus the "The Jays corner the market on Izturises" headline.

The article must be inaccurate. I see the signings of Macier and Julio Izturis, but not Cesar. Also, the Reds show him as signed on 1/9/13.

Wikipedia is ALWAYS the best source.

I guess there's at least something behind Cozart now.

Re: The Reds signed Cesar Izturis?

Would he be willing to be the every day SS in Louisville? If so, this signing is even better. He fits the bill for a good glove man who I want to be the fill in for Cozart if he goes on the DL. He may even fit the roster better than Jason Donald if he will not accept an assignment to Louisville. I know Cesar can't hit, but I want a good defensive SS to be the long-term fill in if Cozart goes down.

RedsZone is slipping. This should've been at least a 25-page thread by Jan. 10.
