Buddy Griffey played ball with Stan Musiel around 1938/39. This means he was born around 1919 (which this article from 1990 supports http://community.seattletimes.nwsour...7&slug=1096920).

This means the Cubs had already not won a Series in 11 years by the time Griffey Jr's grandfather was born.

Yesterday I subbed for a teacher who had a Cubs pennant on the wall. I told a couple of his students to ask him if he was a Cubs fan, and when he said yes, to say "1908".

I may not be invited back.

Don't make a Cubs prospect angry. You wouldn't like him when he's angry.

How very rare to see a black man on an all white team.....9 years before Jackie...you just do not see this.

How did the Cubs not already hold this record:

    http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseb...to-giants.html

A “wild” game Sunday at Wrigley Field that saw Cubs pitchers throw five wild pitches in one inning and balk in the winning run in the 10th ended in a 10-7 victory for the San Francisco Giants. The five wild pitches in one inning tied a Major League record owned by two pitchers, most recently Rick Ankiel in 2000.

Lance Berkman weighs in (get it? He's not slim) on Chicago and Wrigley:

“If they’re looking for a guy to push the button when they blow the place up, I’ll do it,” he said.
“Chicago’s one of the worst places in baseball … really for anything,” he said.

Rick Ankiel had tied the century old record in 2000 when he went wild in the NLDS (I think it was against Randy Johnson when the diamondbacks had him).

The NFL, NBA, and NHL were all created after the Cubs last won a World Series.

In light of this magnificent thread, I would like to contribute something from the vault that would, of course, be considered 'Friendly Fire' by most Cubs fans.

Thus, on the eve of the 30th Anniversary of this post game interview, I humbly provide you with three minutes of guilty pleasure courtesy of Cubs Manager Lee Elia (this is NOT the clean version):

I'm surprised this quote from Berkman didn't get picked up here.

"There is a tremendous history associated with it and there is something special about playing on the same field that guys like Babe Ruth did. But really, what kind of history is there? It's not like there has been one championship after another. It's mainly been a place for people to go and drink beer."
