    Louisville Trip

This summer I plan to take the boys down to Louisville to see 1) Billy and 2) the Slugger Museum. For those who have made the trip (I live in Cincy) is there more to do down there where it would be good to stay over for the night? Or just head down on a Saturday, go see the bats and then go see the Bats and drive home?

The drive isn't bad, you might just go home. After the Bats game you could take in the bars on 5th (?) it's like an entertainment district with chain bars and what not. There's also Bardstown Rd, which has food and bars. The following day there would be a lot of nice parks to go see. I don't know about museums down there, but they say their theater is good.

4th street live is the place you are thinking. It's a little manufactured, lots of 20 and 30 something hipsters it seems.

Love Louisville though, there's a lot to do depending on your taste it just may not be all downtown.

Championships for MY teams in my lifetime:
    Cincinnati Reds - 75, 76, 90
    Chicago Blackhawks - 10, 13
    University of Kentucky - 78, 96, 98, 12
    Cincinnati Bengals - None
    Chicago Bulls - 91, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98

    The Ali Museum is great.

4th Street Live is pretty meh (though there's a British pub-style place that serves a mean fish n chips), but other places to hang in Louisville include, of course, Churchill Downs (depending on the time of year), the Bourbon Trail (awesome, but it takes awhile-- some free samples so bring a designated driver), the Louisville Zoo (not as nice as Cincinnati's, but smaller crowds), the JB Speed Museum, and maybe, if you like being active, the zip lines under the city.

Lots to do in the city, most of it fun and cheap.

I grew up in Louisville so I'm biased, but it is indeed a great city. I say skip 4th street as others have alluded to. Bardstown Rd. and Frankfort Ave are filled with great restaurants and bars. For example, the Bristol is a local institution. Great for dinner lunch or brunch and whatever you do just make sure you order the Green Chili Wontons. Louisville is an amazing restaurant city. The park system is pretty great. I recommend Cherokee park very highly....another Frank Law Olmstead design. Other things have already been mentioned and I'd reiterate Churchill Downs if you've never been. If you like old architecture a jaunt through Old Louisville, especially St. James Court is worth it. Cave Hill cemetery is the L'ville equivalent of Spring Grove and you can see Colonel Sanders' grave and feed the ducks. In all it depends what you are into but there is indeed plenty to do.

Don't know if the Bats will be in town that Saturday (or if you can make it), but the "Thunder Over Louisville" Air Show (and amazing fireworks display) is April 20. It's a great time and a lot of other stuff going on in conjunction with it. It kickoffs the leaqdup to the Derby.

As a matter of fact, I just checked and they do play on 4/20, I might just have to make that one myself.

They play Indy (the Pirates AAAaffiliate) on Friday 04/19 (6:35PM) and Saturday 04/20 (2:05PM).

The Bats are always in town for Thunder. We go every year, stay in our seats until the crowds have left, and make a night of it. Usually, after the game, they have a band and other activities for kids out on the field. Concessions stay open extra late if you need to load up on junk food. And the fireworks spot is nigh-unbeatable.

(Some people camp out on the grass, but I prefer my seat.)
