Joe Garagiola to Announce Retirement from Broadcasting
Garagiola is set to announce his retirement, completely, from broadcasting later today. He's been mostly retired for quite a few years. He's been doing a few games a year for the D'Backs in recent years. He's a legend in baseball broadcasting. He is most known for doing NBC's Game of the Week for many years. That's what I will remember him most. Good luck to him and hope his health is still good for mant more years.

Re: Joe Garagiola to Announce Retirement from Broadcasting
This is fantastic news. Not that he is retiring, but that he is alive. I had no idea.

Ha ha ha. That's what I was thinking. In other news today today, Cheryl Tiegs is retiring from swimsuit modeling.

Re: Joe Garagiola to Announce Retirement from Broadcasting
My earliest memories of watching baseball on TV are of Joe and Tony Kubek on the game of the week and Curt Gowdy doing the World Series.

I can remember being a kid and my dad giving me a book that Joe Garagiola wrote (I doubt he wrote it, but probably told the stories to a real writer) called "Baseball is a Funny Game". Enjoyable read for a kid that loved baseball.

Re: Joe Garagiola to Announce Retirement from Broadcasting
I was a Joe Garagiola fan. Unlike some former players turned announcer, he had a self-deprecating approach and a sense of humor to analyzing a game.
My mom loved him on The Today Show.

Re: Joe Garagiola to Announce Retirement from Broadcasting
For me, I liked watching games played in Baltimore and Detroit. I don't know why- I was 11 or 12, but I enjoyed watching those.
