Reds 2004 - A season in Pictures
Decided to throw this together, a mish mash of pictures I think offer a good look back at the 2004 season.
Apologies to those folks on dialups... Please feel free to add your own images from the 2004 season that you found meaningful. First up.....THE CHASE FOR 500 Griffey's chase for the 500 home run benchmark dominated the early part of the season. |

GRAVES SAVES
Danny Graves breaks the all time Reds career save record, and leads the NL in saves early in the year. |

LARKIN RETURNS
Along with Griffey, Larkin experiences a golden summer, making the All-Star team and flirting with .300, sparking the Reds offense nightly from the two hole. |

EARLY SEASON SUCCESS
Reds ascention to first place in the Central coincides with several sweeps of top shelf NL teams and a rare appearence on the cover of Sports Illustrated. |

WAGNER, WILSON DIVERGE
Paul Wilson makes himself the Reds pre-All Star break Ace, while Ryan Wagner, the shining spot on a dreary 2003 campaign, gets a rude "rookie" awakening before being shipped back down to Louisville. |

THE GLARE
On a rainy spring night, Ken Griffey Junior sent a baseball far off into the night, cementing a Reds victory. Just moments after this picture was taken, briefly glared into the dugout at his former manager, Marlins current skipper Jack McKeon, which sets off a media firestorm. |

CASEY AT THE BAT
Sean Casey returned in '04 with a vengence, smacking hit after hit, seen here, hitting a game winning home run over New York just before the All-Star Break |

WHAT GOES UP, MUST COME DOWN
From the mighty perch of first place in May, back down propping up the Central by August, the Reds saw a potential wild card bid slip into oblivion just after the All-Star break. |

PITCHING WOES
Rookie Joe Valentine turns out one the Reds worst Starting pitching performances of the season, getting rocked by Montreal in just under an inning. His struggles were a microcosm of the Reds overall lack of pitching, especially in the second half, where blown saves, blown leads and abysmal starting pitching doomed the team night in, and night out. Fans of all stripes were calling for the ascention of Brandon Claussen, who was busy leading AAA in strikeouts and walks. Claussen showed a glimmer of promise, but struggled mightily in his second go 'round in a major league uniform. Last edited by jmcclain19; 11-15-2004 at 04:12 AM. |

PENA FINDS HIS WAY
From almost on the waiver wire, to a nightly fixture in the starting lineup, Wily Mo Pena turned some heads and finally lived up to some of the tremendous hype heaped upon him during his Reds career. |

LARKIN'S FINAL CALL
2004, amongst all other things, saw the final game of legend Barry Larkin in a Reds Uniform. A fixture at SS for two decades, Larkin came out with a bang during what would be his last hurrah as a Red, but went out with a whimper, missing most of the last month on the bench. It remains to be seen if Larkin's last game at Great American will be his last anywhere. But, just like everything in life, all good things come to an end, such was Barry's career, and such was the 2004 season. |
