That's what I have been looking for the answer to as well. Does anyone know if Luke Hudson cleared waivers as well?

2/12/06 Agreed to terms with 1B Scott Hatteberg on a one-year contract.

2/10/06 Claimed LHP Michael Gosling off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks and designated RHP Luke Hudson for assignment.

maybe that helps? lol Thats the last things they've did this off-season as posted on reds.com

From Marc's blog:

Been a while since we had one of those around here. Nonetheless, it looks like all's quiet on the Reds front. They're still dotting i's and crossing t's on the Hatteberg deal, apparently, so there wasn't even a corresponding roster move today. I imagine that'll go through tomorrow morning at some point, and to be honest, I've been so busy packing that I haven't given much thought to who might get the ax.

Won't be Bong as he is a pitcher. I think they will probably bump a position player. Just a question if a player is on the 40 man but has options do they still need to be DFA'd or can they just be sent back down. Because if they can then could if be Denorfia.

Just sending someone down on an option doesn't take him off the 40 man. You have to go the DFA route (or just flat out release the player) to get him off the 40 man, and the player is exposed to waivers before he can be assigned to the minors. Denorfia would surely be claimed, so it won't be him.

How about that Balfour guy who's probably never going to pitch again.

There's quite a few guys on the 40 that would clear waivers, wish Krivskey would trim the hedges a bit.

Re: who was let go to give hatteberg a roster spot?

Is there a time limit for the 40-man roster?

If not, maybe they want to wait and take a look at everyone during spring training.

According to Marc Lancaster, they're still dotting the i's and crossing the t's, so the contract hasn't been signed and therefore, there is no need to make the corresponding move yet. They've "agreed to terms".

Re: who was let go to give hatteberg a roster spot?

If I had to guess I'd say Sardinha gets the boot. He has virtually no chance to make the Opening Day roster, he'll easily clear waivers as he's done it before, and with Hatteberg's ability to catch in a pinch there isn't the urgency to have him on the 40 man and available if LaRue or Valentin went down for 15 days.
