BP's All-Star Chances Might Have Just Gotten Alot Better

Quote:
Rookie second baseman Dan Uggla remains hopeful that he'll return this week, but there's a chance he might not play until after the All-Star break.

Uggla, who leads the Marlins with 13 home runs, hasn't been able to run without pain since he left Tuesday's game with a strained right hamstring.

---

The Marlins, knowing hamstring injuries can take a while to fully heal, are considering a conservative approach with Uggla.

They might keep him benched for the next two weeks, hoping to have him return July 13, the first game after the break.
Palm Beach Post

Never wish injury on anyone, especailly a guy like Uggla, but this could help out BP.

Are you kidding? Did you see the shenannigans he performed on El Dooky? He should be banned with Pete Rose for it.

Call me ignorant but who are the top canidates to go to the AS game at second in the NL?

Phillips is over .300 with a chance to get to 50 RBIs by the break. He deserves to go.

If Griffey starts, he, BP and Bronson should all be there.

Chase Utley and Biggio (because Scrap Iron will pick him.)

Who's the leading vote-getter at 2B? Is it Utley?

Biggio doesn't have near the numbers BP does.

BP didn't play in the World Series for the NL Manager last year. Unfortunately for BP, that's the way it works alot of the time.

BP's rank among NL second basemen:

OBP - 6th
SLG - 4th
OPS - 4th
Avg - 2nd

Counting stats...

HR - 5th
RBI - 1st
SB - 2nd
2B - 8th

After looking at the numbers, Jeff Kent, Jose Castillo and Rickie Weeks all have legit claims as well. NL 2B is quite a bit more competitive than it has been in the past few years when it was Kent and Biggio and no one.

Unfortunately I believe that BP might be on the outside looking in, and it will probably be because of who is the manager of this years squad...any other year with any other manager, I believe he would be there
