Braves/Red Sox discussing Andruw Jones deal?

Buster Olney just reported on Cold Pizza that the Red Sox and Braves are discussing a deal that would send Andruw Jones to Boston for a package including Craig Hansen, Coco Crisp, and another player. The Braves are asking for Jon Lester as the third player, and the Red Sox are reluctant to give him up at this point.

Guess the Braves are sellers..

Perhaps we're in discussions about Smoltz?

Not so sure about that. They've picked up Baez and Wickman recently.

They might think that Lester and Crisp help them more than Andruw Jones.

I'm fairly sure I agree with them!

They very well might, although I profess ignorance as to how Crisp's defense stacks up with Jones.

That would be a huge deal for the Braves if they could net all 3.

I can't imagine Sox giving up Lester. He's not only important for the future, he's important now.

The Braves have rarely come out on the short end of their deals over the years.

The Red Sox would one up the Yanks in the dealing with that move. I don't know anything about Lester but unless he's the 2nd coming of Babe Ruth I would pull the trigger on that deal. Imagine Jones,Ortiz and Ramirez all together in that lineup. Pretty sweet.

Re: Braves/Red Sox discussing Andruw Jones deal?

It would probably be a bit of a defensive downgrade, but then, Andruw Jones isn't what Andruw Jones used to be in center.

Re: Braves/Red Sox discussing Andruw Jones deal?

Actually, if the Braves throw in Hudson, I could see this deal happening with Lester (1.48 WHIP) included. The Braves really need to find a taker for the back end of Hudson's contract or they could suffer through a few lean years with a serious amount of cash tied up on one pitcher. The Sox can probably handle his contract and his arm.

Latest rotoworld update makes it seem as if this trade was never anything but a rumor.
