Custer's Last Stand

Well this is it.
The highs of April.
The decent May.
The slump of June.
The Trade of July.
The wild August.
The west coast trip.

3 games. At home.

Make it happen.

I was in Maine in the late fall once and the local custrad stand was closed.

The sign said:

Closed for the Season
Reason, Freezin.

So you probably don't care for Rita's in the least bit...

Water Ice, the 1 thing I've yet to understand, since moving to Philly.

The starters were good that month (3.89 ERA), but no scoring equals no winning. Started the month tied for 1st place and ended it 5.0 GB of the Cards.

Apr. 17-8 (.680)
June 15-12 (.556)
July 11-14 (.440)
Aug. 12-17 (.414)
May 11-16 (.407)

I'd like to see Sept. above April in the above list!

This is the biggest reason why I think WK barely gets a passing grade (probably a D-, only b/c of his early season moves). Look at July and August, the months when he went on an unprecedented roster slicing and dicing. Not good at all.

RFA, I think he might have meant to type "descent", as in going down.

Now, that's a stark reminder that the team's W-L record has been resting on its April laurels.

Re: Custer's Last Stand

I think I'll see if I can rent the movie "Little Big Man" with Dustin Hoffman and watch it with the kids.

But on a Reds note.... I'd love to see them finish out the season with a stretch of wins. As bad as the NL remains it would be fun to watch a few teams at least get worried and "we" "me" "us" "the team" "the Reds" get excited.

Re: Custer's Last Stand

I'd hate to see the season end on a complete implosion and have that lingering in our minds all offseason. While they are ultimatley a .500ish team I'd hate to see the good things they did over the course of the year overshadowed by a total collapse in the last weeks of the season.
