At least seven perish in Huntington apartment fire
At least seven people perished in a fire that gutted the Emmons Junior apartment building Saturday night in Huntington, WV. This is a 64 unit, five floor apartment building located about one block from my firm's law office. What is particularly of personal concern is that our office runner, a college student, lived in either the Emmons Junior or the Emmons Senior apartment building next door, and we were unable to contact him yesterday.
Several other people are still missing, as firefighters have not yet been able to reach upper floors. None of the identities of the deceased have yet been released, but news accounts stated that one woman lost three teenaged children in the tragedy. The apartment building was constructed in about 1924. It did not have a sprinkler system.

Any word on your runner? I hope he is ok. Many of my friends lived in the Emmons during college; what a tragic event.

Yep three siblings from my community died. They were two brothers and one sister. The oldest was 19,the girl was 17 and the little brother was only 14
They were christians and they found a bible in the girls hand. The 19 year old was going to college at Marshall and his sister and brother was down there visiting. My condolences go out to the Lucas family.

The apartment fire is apparently being treated as a crime scene by the Huntington Police Department. The area is still closed off and two blocks of third avenue are closed to traffic. There are rumors that the fire may have started as a result of an explosion in a meth lab, but that is unconfirmed. I think the death count is now nine people. Among the deceased was one seven year old, and the terrible tragedy of the threee Lucas teenagers mentioned by WVPacman.
