Randolph Morris signs with the Knicks.

from ESPN.com

Quote:
The New York Knicks signed Kentucky center Randolph Morris to a two-year, $1.6 million contract Friday, an NBA source told ESPN Insider Chad Ford.

Morris declared for the 2005 NBA draft as a freshman and went undrafted. The NCAA allowed him to return to the Wildcats after serving a suspension, but NBA rules prohibit Morris from re-entering the draft, which made him an unrestricted free agent.

Morris averaged 16.1 points and 7.8 rebounds a game this season for the Wildcats.

Knew that would happen.

No-brainer for him.

He's been excellent lately.

Interesting, will he be able to play right away, or does the deal kick in next year?

Re: Randolph Morris signs with the Knicks.

He can leave right away but this new rule could affect Kentucky scholarships in the future with him leaving in the middle of the school year. This I got from the ESPN article.

Quote:
Under the new APR, schools are subject to scholarship penalties if student-athletes leave early and not in good academic standing. Withdrawing from school before the end of a semester can seriously impede a team's GPA and academic standing. To that end, Texas and Ohio State are taking steps to ensure freshmen Kevin Durant and Greg Oden will finish the spring semester.

Re: Randolph Morris signs with the Knicks.

That's actually a really good deal on both ends. At the very least Morris will get a ton of extra practice to work on his game. If he gets better, he can rake in the money in only 2 years, not 3 or 4.

If he stinks, it doesn't matter to the Knicks because they don't pay him lottery type money, and he's only on the payroll for a short time.

Re: Randolph Morris signs with the Knicks.

Even if they get a good coach Kentucky is going to be really bad next year. Whoever they get is going to have to scrounge up a few late signings and Jucos to fill the roster. Will Kentucky fans tolerate an NIT year from a new coach?

Re: Randolph Morris signs with the Knicks.

Good riddance. He's a pretty good player and UK won't be as good without him, but I can't stand him. He's very lazy and selfish, IMO. Never lived up to the hype, in fact, the team got much worse since he first arrived.
