Mayweather Vs De La Hoya

How bad does Floyd win?
Anyone else actually care about this one?

I'm incredibly excited. Gonna leave GABP early on Saturday to get ready for fight party.

Any predictions?

Re: Mayweather Vs De La Hoya

Good thread, Cedric, nice to get some attention for this fight on here... I am very excited by the fight. Could potentially be the highest buyrate in boxing history, including heavyweights.... already has the highest live gate ever. And they better get it while they can, because this either starts a renaissance in boxing, or, the more likely: it's the last huge money fight that casual fans will have an interest in. For this cycle, at least.

Anyway, I see Floyd winning a fairly dominant decision, as he often does. He will win hands down, but I don't see him actually finishing Oscar. Then I predict Floyd will be sure to let us know how great he is after the fight.

I see Floyd winning too. I also see him telling the world how great he is.

But what I won't see Floyd do is actually accepting Dana White's invitation to fight Sean Sherk.

Haha, hilarious you mention that, I was just thinking about that when I was reading this thread.

Sean Sherk is only in MMA because he couldn't make it in boxing, don't ya know. That's what Floyd says.

You know, besides the fact Sherk is from a wrestling background to begin with.

Those MMA guys wouldn't get within 2 feet of the best boxers in the world.

In a strictly boxing match, of course.

But in an MMA match, a boxer would get destroyed just like any one dimensional fighter would get destroyed in MMA. Unless a boxer was also a former solid collegiate wrestler or had some worthwhile ground experience, it's unlikely they'd have the necessary sprawl to keep the fight on the feet. And when the fight hits the ground, it's over since a boxer would be out of his realm and completely helpless.

If a Sherk vs. Mayweather MMA match would ever happen, that fight would be on the ground in less than 15 seconds, because I'm pretty certain Mayweather wouldn't have the type of sprawl necessary to stuff a Sherk takedown. Once on the ground, that fight would probably be over within another 90 seconds either from ground'n pound or an easy submission. Mayweather wouldn't have any idea what in the world to do with a guy like Sherk on top of him on the ground.

Does anybody really think Pretty Boy could stop this?

That's in slow motion, and take a look at the clock. That's less than two seconds from shoot to full out slam. Mayweather wouldn't have a prayer of preventing that from happening to him.

I grew up watching the big bouts of the 1970s and not just Ali fights - Carlos Monzon, Carlos Palomino, Alfredo Escalera, Little Red Lopez, Pip Cuevas, Wilfredo Benitez and, the best fighter who ever lived (IMO) Roberto Duran. I'm proud to say I watched fights like the Thrilla in Manilla, Chacon-Boza Edwards II, Holyfield-Qawi I and Ward-Gatti I when they happened. I've got enormous respect for boxers and their craft.

That said, a quality MMA guy would break a boxer apart in short order. Cyclone's being generous about a boxer lasting 90 seconds on the mat. My guess is he'd be choked out or thrown into a kimura within 15 seconds.

My money is on Floyd winning with ease. Otherwise, I really hope to see the Golden Boy come out of it with an upset.

I've been watching the build-up reality-series inspired specials on HBO. GREAT TELEVISION.

I'm pulling for the Old Man, but it's gonna be tough.

Freddie Roach is incredible.

Can't wait for the fight!

Maybe this will bring some of the casual fans back to boxing.

Oscar may just have one more in him.

Mayweather is a -185 favorite, De la Hoya a +150 underdog.

Re: Mayweather Vs De La Hoya

I'm also super stoked about this one.

PBF is a natural 140, DLH is a natural 154, advantage DLH.
PBF has great speed, DLH has good speed, advantage PBF.
PBF has good punching power, DLH is stronger at this weight, advantage DLH.

I think PBF's only chance is to pepper DLH with quick combos and run.
OTOH one good left hook from DLH will take away PBF's speed and cut-off the ring.

IMO, DLH wins by KO.

Now that I think about it...

This is exactly how DLH fought Tito Trinidad the last 3-4 rounds of their bout.
The judges didn't like it and gave all those rounds to Trinidad.
So at some point PBF has to stand and trade with DLH.
I don't think he can match DLH blow for blow.

Re: Mayweather Vs De La Hoya

So excited for this and the Derby on Saturday.

I think Floyd wins pretty easily - don't think he'll knock out De La Hoya, but I think he wins 8 rounds to 4 or so.
