Reds and Twins dealing again???

This is from the Strike Zone column on Rotoworld, from the blurb about the Twins.

Quote:
Minnesota - With no return for Rondell White in sight, the Twins are going to give Garrett Jones a chance to play regularly against right-handers. He'll hit the occasional homer, but he'll probably struggle to a .220-.240 average and a sub-.300 OBP. The Twins have been slow to address their needs, but they still figure to add a bat before the deadline. Whether it'll be a third baseman or an outfielder-DH type remains unclear. Mike Piazza would be a very nice fit, even if he wouldn't knock Nick Punto out of the lineup. They don't appear to be interested in Sammy Sosa. Edwin Encarnacion might not make as much of a difference as Piazza this year, but indications are that he's available and he could be a long-term third baseman for the Twins. … Matt Garza impressed in his first start of the year against the White Sox and is set to remain in the rotation over Kevin Slowey. It'd be tough to use him with the Tigers and Angels on the schedule this week, but he's a big-time sleeper in AL-only leagues for the rest of the season.
Given the current Freel playing 3B controversy and the fact that the Twins are involved, this will probably start the site buzzing. Personally, I don't see it but if the Reds were to get back Garza or Slowey it wouldn't be awful. My fear is that it would be Scott Baker (Miltonesque HR Rates) or a middle reliever. Minnesota has some decent relievers, but EdE is worth more than that IMO. It doesn't make sense for EdE to be sitting if the Reds are trying to show him off for a trade (unless of course its past that point and he is sitting in anticipation of a deal being imminent).

Have at it.

Let's see; my analysis the other day showed the Reds obtained players via trade, waiver claims and the Rule 5 draft from 15 clubs (half of MLB) and only two trades have occurred with the Twins (Lohse & Castro). One waiver wire claim was placed last week from the Twins, a minor leaguer now with Dayton. The wires are burning between Cincy and the Twin Cities, I'll say.

In that same time, we've also traded with the Phillies (twice), the Nats (twice), Cleveland, KC, Arizona, Dodgers, A's (twice), and the Padres. I'm sure I'm forgetting others.

Of course, what has been posted is merely a rumor, a conjecture on the part of a writer. I wouldn't disagree that EE might be available. I think that's true of the vast majority of the Reds roster. I'm not familiar with the players alleged to be available from the Twins, so I can't dismiss it. But I can say, it's just a rumor.

I honestly don't believe that EE is in any significant disfavor.

Terry Ryan is Wayne's safety blanket.

Unless...unless the Reds are actually showcasing Freel. I believe the Twins would have a significantly better line-up with Freel playing third base and paired with Castillo at the top of their order.

I doubt they part with Garza for Freel, but I'd be more than happy with Slowey and satisfied with Baker.

The more I think about it, the Twins would probably love to have Freel. He could play third base this season and provide an option for center field next season.

Its been documented that Narrons double standard in dealing with EE had an adverse effect on the clubhouse. I wonder now that Narron is gone and we are still seeing the mysterious bouts of EE bench riding that maybe it was coming from a bit higher?

Hopefully not and they are showcasing Freel and his versatility(hoping that no one notices his many glaring weaknesses). I really do feel giving up on EE at this point would be premature, not to mention potentially selling at a low point for him.

Not trying to start anything, but I've been on vacation and hadn't seen this. Could you point me to where it's been documented?

I know for a fact that Jim Bowden was in town over the all-star break.

I have NO IDEA what, if anything, that means for the Reds. But he was here. And that makes my heart drop more than anything Twins-related.

I believe his children live in Cincinnati still.

I would be happy with either Garza or Slowey in any deal with the Twins. That's fine return.

I don't mind him going back to that well as long as he comes back with value...

For Encarnacion, I would want either Slowey or Garza in return. For Freel, Scott Baker or Eduardo Morlan would be a great return.
