Bailey for Rios being discussed?

per mlbtraderumors:

Elliott also said the Reds are interested in Alex Rios. If the Giants are pondering sending Tim Lincecum to the Jays for him, I imagine the Reds would have to counter with Homer Bailey. Bailey, however, is less proven than Lincecum.

i have always liked Rios too, but to trade a young starter when we NEED starters doesnt make sense,, offer Hamilton straight up for him!

I doubt Toronto would prefer Bailey over Lincecum. It will probably take another prospect in addition to Bailey to trump the Giants offer.

I think the Jays wanted to make the deal, but it was the Giants who balked. So who Toronto prefers wouldn't necessarily enter into it as the Giants have walked away from the table.

With that said, another prospect probably wouldn't be needed depending on how they value Bailey.

Unless you're going to trade Bruce for a young starter.

Re: Bailey for Rios being discussed?

Alex Rios is a stud. Bailey is a POTENTIAL stud.

With one you know what you are getting - offensive production.

With the other you hope what you might get down the road - Ace pitcher.

I would do it and then worry about trading away outfield parts to get pitching later. Rios is that good.

Yeah, the Reds don't need a CF and Homer is just shedding his Jim Maloney shell right?

I was unaware that Rios played centerfield. He is a good defensive right fielder, but that doesn't mean he can move to CF and be any better than Josh Hamilton there.

Also, who does he start in front of? It won't be Dunn or Griffey, regardless of what we think about those situations. Would he start over Josh Hamilton?

As for Bailey, when did I bring him up at all in this thread?

IF Rios comes to the Reds, he'll play CF this year.

Well, you quoted me then asked a question about Bailey as if I had brought him up.

doug, are you honestly saying you wouldn't move Bailey and Bruce for Rios and Bedard?

I wouldn't, becuase I wouldn't move Bruce for Bedard. I am not sure if I would move Bailey for Rios either, but that one I am willing to move a little bit with depending on what my scouts said. Bruce though, is untouchable if I am the GM.

In post #5 when you said

As RMR has said, if we could turn Bruce into Bedard, and then Bailey into Rios, this definitely wouldn't be the Reds we all love and know.
