Marlins sign pitcher Hendrickson

By Juan C. Rodriguez | South Florida Sun-Sentinel The Marlins added veteran depth and height to their pitching staff, signing 6-9 left-hander Mark Hendrickson to a one-year $1.5 million deal. Non-tendered by the Dodgers last month, Hendrickson will join a rotation that includes Scott Olsen, Sergio Mitre, Andrew Miller and Ricky Nolasco or Rick VandenHurk. Hendrickson lost eight of 12 decisions for the Dodgers last season splitting time between the rotation and bullpen. He struck out 92 batters and walked 29 in 122 2/3 innings. Hendrickson, who was looking for a chance to start full-time again, received feelers from several clubs and chose the Marlins after narrowing the field to three finalists. During a six-year career that started with the Blue Jays in 2002, Hendrickson is 43-59 in 179 games (135 starts) with a 5.01 ERA, 238 walks and 464 strikeouts in 844 innings. He's started 30 or more games in a season three times, including 2003 with current Marlins bench coach and former Blue Jays manager Carlos Tosca. |

I like Hendrickson but I see him more as a bullpen pitcher more than a starter.
