Re: Brock Lesner to try UFC...
Lesnar leaving WWE has to be in the top 10 "worst career moves" of all time list.

Re: Brock Lesner to try UFC...
I'm pretty pumped to see him. He's being broken in with tougher opponents than pretty much anyone else has started with, since he's making so much money on his contract.
He's just such a raw athlete, he could be scary to watch. I saw the K1/Pride(i forget which it was) fight where he beat the 7 footer in a minute and he looked impressive. His wrestling background is well known though, I want to see how his standup is, if he uses it at all. |

Man, Brock Lesnar is probably the 2nd most guy I miss from the WWE after The Rock.
GL Brock, go do some work in MMA. |

Re: Brock Lesner to try UFC...
^^^ It was the K-1 show at the LA Coliseum where he fought the Korean giant. Incidentally, he was originally to fight Hong-Man Choi, a very accomplished K-1 kickboxer who's pretty green himself to MMA, but Choi couldn't get medical clearance from the California State Athletic Commission to fight due to his pituitary gland causing his giant status. Choi then went on to fight Fedor Emelianenko last month and lost to an armbar. Anyway, the guy that Brock beat isn't really a good barometer for the Frank Mir fight though, because that guy was completely new to MMA as well, and it was his fight fight. Lesnar requested Mir as his debut opponent, for whatever reason. If Mir's head and conditioning is right, he could instantaneously submit Lesnar. Then again, Marcio Cruz ground-and-pounded Mir into an oblivion a couple years ago and Lesnar is EONS better as a wrestler than Cruz, who primarily was a jiujitsu guy himself.

Re: Brock Lesner to try UFC...
Lesnar lost the fight tonight by submission in the first round.
He looked pretty good at first. Dominated right out of the gate, took Mir down to the ground within 4 seconds and was pounding away at him. He made a mistake and hit him in the back of the head and the ref penalized him and they reset. If it wasn't for that, Mir probably would have been done for quickly. Lesnar got him back to the ground but ended up getting into Mir's guard and resisted an armbar, got up to his feet and trying to move away got caught by the ankle and was put in a knee bar, where he quickly tapped out. If he can learn not to make mistakes like that, he's going to be an absolute force in this sport. Hopefully he uses this as a learning experience. |

Re: Brock Lesner to try UFC...
If Lesnar is able to pick up some BJJ defense, then he can have some success. His wrestling skills and physical power is a good base to learn from, but what we saw tonight was the result when someone's BJJ skills are very raw. Lesnar's physical size gave him decent BJJ defense from inside Mir's guard (hard to wrap your legs around a neck that large), but he had no clue how to spin out of the knee bar.
BTW, the 90 seconds that Lesnar lasted is about the amount of time I'd give a guy like Floyd Mayweather if he were to try MMA. Stick Mayweather in there against BJ Penn or Sean Sherk, and I probably wouldn't even give Floyd 60 seconds. He'd be on the ground and submitted or pounded out in a snap.

I hope Lesnar continues, because he's a beast and just needs to cross-train a little harder in order to stay in these fights long enough for his physical size advantage to come into play. On the plus side, I got my check picked up at BW's tonight for being the only one in my group to call the fight correctly. I had "Mir in 3 minutes." Everyone else was calling a Lesnar victory.

Re: Brock Lesner to try UFC...
Its not like he gets to pick who he fights. If you are serious about having a career in MMA, you fight who ever the UFC wants you to fight. The UFC is quickly becoming, if not already, the Big Show. Every other fighting organization isn't even close. I think Lesner can be a force in the heavyweight division with a little more training. But he isn't going to get anywhere unless he fights quality opponents.

Re: Brock Lesner to try UFC...
I didnt think Lesnar had a chance and I was impressed by his showing. It was a mistake you would expect from someone who has had one fight. Hope Lesnar is dedicated to it and works at it cause I think he could be something special.

Re: Brock Lesner to try UFC...
Might be a good move for him. Kind of like when Ken left to go to pro wrestling except vice-versa. I haven't watched wrestling in years but I know Brock is a beast.
