New Sheriff in Tennis....

Rafael Nadal replaces Roger Federer atop the ATP rankings. Federer held the top spot for 4 1/2 years. That is one seriously nice run. And I don't think Roger is done yet. He and Nadal might pass that number one ranking back and forth a time or two. In any case congrats to both.

Rafael Nadal's summer keeps getting better.

A day after winning an Olympic gold medal in Beijing, Nadal officially unseated Roger Federer to become the world's No. 1 tennis player when the ATP rankings came out on Monday.

Federer had been atop the rankings for 235 weeks, but Nadal has won six tournaments this year and heads into next week's U.S. Open as the favorite to win his third straight Grand Slam.

He has won 38 of his last 39 matches on tour and beat Federer in the finals of the French Open and Wimbledon this summer.

Nadal beat Fernando Gonzalez of Chile in straight sets on Sunday to win a gold medal for Spain in men's singles.

Federer's loss to Blake has me concerned though. The dude just dominated tennis for years than he loses to a guy that never once gave him any trouble. If anything, I think we're more likely to see Nadal and Djokovic swap the #1 spot over the next few years rather Nadal and Federer.

You could be correct but Federer reminds me more of a hitter who's timing is just a bit off. The problem seems to be mainly with his forehand. That's always been a solid stroke for him but now he's spraying it a bit. I'm thinking that over the winter Roger goes back to reviving that stroke.

There's also been some thought that Roger is a good enough player to serve and volley a little more---especially against Nadal. I'm not sure that would work but I'd certainly like to see it tried in the Aussie Open and at Wimbledon.

Federer vs. Nadal is certainly an interesting match up and one that I hope to enjoy many more times.

It's just what men's tennis needs right now, a good rivalry

At least Federer gets a rival.

Tiger's still waiting for his.

Wait, Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia aren't it? Shocking...
