That was obviously a huge turning point in the game, but contrary to what many (not saying you, Matt) will have you believe, it wasn't on the last, fateful and deciding 49ers drive.

Didn't the niners get a TD on the next play?

I'm not sure the last drive matters as much if they are down by an additional 7 points

Yes, it was definitely a big play in the game, as I originally mentioned - all I'm saying is that many incorrectly recall it being on the final drive of the game (right before Montana to Taylor).

Seeing footage of that game still makes me sick at my stomach, even twenty years later. I will contend the rest of my days that the Cincinnati Bengals were the best team in the National Football League in 1988.

Ahh. I always remembered it as a play that happened on an earlier drive; I probably haven't ever noticed that people had Fisked it.
