Yankees' Long-Forgotten Mascot
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...535825960.html
![]() The biggest bust in Yankees history was 7 feet tall, made $40 every home game and spent most of his brief career in the upper deck. From 1979 to 1981, the Yankees employed a mascot named Dandy. He was big and blue and a spectacular failure—a historical oddity for a proud franchise that has collected 27 world championships but would just as soon forget he even existed. Which, to be fair, isn't terribly difficult to do. |

Wow, I did not know that. I hope Gapper joins him in mascot heaven.

Re: Yankees' Long-Forgotten Mascot
Very possibly the last thing in the world you'd expect a Yankee mascot to look like. I have no memory of him, thank goodness.

Dandy has the hair and facial hair of Goose Gossage.

Re: Yankees' Long-Forgotten Mascot
I was thinking more along the lines of Thurman Munson, but that seemed wrong somehow.

Re: Yankees' Long-Forgotten Mascot
That story really is more like a Seinfeld episode than real life.

Re: Yankees' Long-Forgotten Mascot
I had no idea they even had something like this. Probably Steinbrenner's idea after he saw some other team's mascot get fans interested.

Looks like Youppi's DNA was spread far and wide.

Re: Yankees' Long-Forgotten Mascot
All Reds Mascots are lame. The only one I ever thought was cool was Seattle's Moose. Especially after he broke his ankle...so nasty but cool at the same time.
