Re: Dantonio suffers heart attack after game

It's such a stressful profession, with insane working hours during the season. It's a wonder there aren't more coaches with stress-related ailments.

Hopefully Dantonio can have a full and speedy recovery and continue to coach.

BTW, I think the picture accompanying that article is the only time I've ever seen Dantonio smile or look pleased about something.

He smiles whenever he beats Michigan!

Re: Dantonio suffers heart attack after game

Really sad to hear, he's only in his mid 50's as well. There seems to be a flood of people suffering heart attacks in their 50's these days. My dad died of one when he was 54.

I too am suprised it doesn't happen more with coaches, football and basketball. The long and late hours, constant travel and living out of hotel rooms eating junk food whenever you get 15 minutes free.

Hopefully he gets well soon.

Re: Dantonio suffers heart attack after game

Did anyone read John Gruden's book?

That's the coaching mentality. Never slow down, never be satisfield. Nothing is ever good enough. Wins are not really joyous events so much as they are about a 5 minute relief. Then, it's time to get back on the horse and put in the 90-plus hours for next week. It's constant "GO, GO, GO" combined with the fear/anxiety/pressure of big time coaching.
