2 trades the Reds need to make

James Shields to the Reds

for

Yonder Alonso, Yasmani Grandal, Todd Frazier, Kyle Lotzkar, and Philippe Valiquette

Its a lot to give up in 2 top 10 prospects 2 top 20 and a top 30 but the Reds need a top end of the rotation guy to go along with Cueto. Plus he's under contract for 3 more years and he's only 29. This would be a good trade both ways.

Ryan Ludwick to the Reds

for

Chris Heisey or Dave Sappelt either or and Donnie Joseph.

Worst part of this deal would be that Ludwick is a FA after the season. But he would be a upgrade to our current LF and clean up hitting situations.

Lineup and rotation after trades.
Phillips
Cozart
Votto
Ludwick
Bruce
Rolen
Stubbs
Hernandez/Hannigan

Rotation
Cueto
Shields
Leake
Willis/Bailey
Arroyo/Bailey

Looks solid.

I would never trade Heisey to rent Ryan Ludwick. I wouldn't even make that trade if Ludwick wasn't a rental.

Heisey is never going to be more than a 4th OF.

Re: 2 trades the Reds need to make

What about this?

Rays get Alonso, Wood, Grandal, Smith, Duran

Reds Get Shields, Zobrist

and

Giants get Hernandez, Ptbnl

Reds get Javier Lopez

and

Braves get Johhny Gomes

Reds get ptbnl or cash

and

Padres get Heisey, ptbnl

Reds get Ludwick

Thoughts?

You know, call me crazy and say that's a lot to give up (the three trades combined), but that would be an absolute sick lineup AND statement. Cueto, Ubaldo and Shields? Sick.

Hunter Pence, in my opinion, while people know he is good, is one of if not THE most underrated outfielder in the game. He is a big time player.. I am a huge Hunter Pence fan.

Re: 2 trades the Reds need to make

Why are people willing to give up our top prospect at FB in Yonder when in 2 years they are saying we are not going to afford Votto? Not been a baseball fan for to long so this is a honest question. Is there other options at FB?

I'd love with a capital L to get Pence, but I'd go with this lineup instead

Pence Lf
Cozrart ss
Phillips 2nd
Votto 1rst
Hernandez C
Bruce rf
Stubbs cf
whoever's playing 3rd

Re: 2 trades the Reds need to make

i like the idea of getting shields, but i wouldn't give up the farm to get him. We will see what happens, but i do think we need to get an ACE and a bat before the deadline. I also think hernandez needs to go.

Way to much to give up for Ryan Ludwick.

Heisey is better than Ludwick now.

Re: 2 trades the Reds need to make

Why do people want Ludwick? He's an old average rent a player. We have Heisey, Gomes, Sappelt, Dorn and others who can probably give us just as much.

I don't want Ludwick. Waste of a trade.

Re: 2 trades the Reds need to make

They need a big bat and a #1 type pitcher

The Bat gets them to the playoffs
The Pitcher gets them out of the 1st round of the playoffs

Do they have enough chips to land two good players?

Shields would be great for the pitcher, hell he shut down the Yankees the last two times he faced them

But what is the bat they could get, Ludwick is no better than what we already have

Ludwick .693 OPS
Current LF'ers on Reds .683

.010 OPS is not worth giving up any players for
