Follow up stories to the offseason trades
I came across an article in the San Diego Tribune on Yonder Alonso. The Padres had voluntary workouts for newly acquired players, so he was in town for that. Interesting read and I thought I'd start a thread where we can put this type of article.
I said elsewhere that I fully expect a number of these players we've traded to succeed and help their clubs over the long term. I'd still make the trades and don't anticipate many, if any, regrets. I'm sure in the coming couple of months, we'll see more stories like this one, so feel free to link them here. It should be a fascinating read and discussion. Here's this story (with a bit of a lame headline): "Yonder isn't as important as hits to Alonso": http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2012/...t-hits-alonso/

Re: Follow up stories to the offseason trades
I came across this analysis on MLB's site, a breakdown of the Padres this off-season covering, of course, the four players the Reds sent in the Latos trade:

Re: Follow up stories to the offseason trades
Here's the Cubs rundown. Interesting that both Wood & Sappelt made their debuts against Chicago.

Re: Follow up stories to the offseason trades
Not sure if everyone saw MLB's edition of Clubhouse Confidemtial earlier this week featuring Walt talking a little bit more about the moves.
http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?co...pic_id=7417714 Three things jump out to me. One, Latos was among a few young upside SPs they targeted at the beginning of the offseason. Glad the organization was that proactive instead of letting the trades come to them. Two, Coco dragging his feet really helped the Reds get Madson. (Whew.) And three, Walt doesn't envision the club in a "Votto window." Says they're thinking he'll either sign long term or the Reds will have the players and resources to survive his departure.

Re: Follow up stories to the offseason trades
I know I titled the thread "trades," but thought I'd include some stories on some of our free agents who left. Here's a Toronto Sun story on Cordero with the Blue Jays:

Re: Follow up stories to the offseason trades
I hope folks don't mind me keeping this thread updated. It's been an extraordinary off-season & personally I'm intrigued to see how those we traded do. Here's a nice piece on Alonso again from the San Diego Union Tribune.

Re: Follow up stories to the offseason trades
Here's a piece on the San Diego Hurricanes - five players in camp who played at the University of Miami (including Yonder & Yasmani) - surprisingly three of them are catchers.
