Birthdays: 1/31

Reds:

Ted Power (57) -Was just blossoming into one of baseball's best relievers when the Reds turned him into a mediocre starter.

Others:

Nolan Ryan (65) -Only two players have had their numbers retired by at least three different teams, and they both have birthdays today. Fun fact: Ryan gave up a grand slam to the second-last batter he faced in his career.

Ernie Banks (81) -On May 8, 1973, Cubs manager Whitey Lockman was ejected and coach Ernie Banks took over for the rest of the game. So if you want to look at it that way, Ernie Banks was really the first African-American manager.

Hank Aguirre -Born on the same day as Ernie Banks, with whom he played and coached. The 1962 AL ERA leader, he's better known for being an absolutely hopeless hitter- striking out in 236 of his 388 career ABs.

Jackie Robinson -Jackie was briefly employed as the athletic director as Sam Houston State College before his prfessional baseball career began. Wonder how many former college ADs have played major league ball?

Bob Ferguson -From the earliest days of organized ball. His middle name was "Vavasour" and his nickname was "Death To Flying Things".

I hope this does not happen this year.

By the way, when I was on the "other side", this was always the first thread I would click on when visiting here.
