7.6 Quake in Mexico

http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquak...sc0008m6h.html

OAXACA, MEXICO
Distances
25 km (15 miles) E (95°) from Ometepec, Guerrero, Mexico
42 km (26 miles) NNW (335°) from Pinotepa Nacional, Oaxaca, Mexico
87 km (54 miles) SW (219°) from Tlaxiaco, Oaxaca, Mexico
162 km (101 miles) WSW (255°) from Oaxaca, Oaxaca, Mexico
186 km (115 miles) E (96°) from Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico

Also, apparently President's daughter could be within 90 miles of the epicenter.

You're absolutely right. I looked up Guerrero, Mexico which is much further north. Thanks for the correction!

Re: 7.6 Quake in Mexico

I hope everyone is okay down there.

In a town near me, there are a lot of Mexicans from Oaxaca. I never knew how to pronounce it (or their shops, which they call Oaxaquenas) until i asked someone. Wa-Ha-Ca, or in the stores case, Wa-Ha-Cane-Ya. Not very relevant, I know, but it is an awkward looking word for me and for that reason interesting.

/Cool story bro

Oaxaqueñas translates as "from Oaxaca" (f)(p). In this case its just a shorting of tienda (store) oaxaqueña.

A lady from oaxaca would also be a oaxaqueña. (señora oaxaqueña)

wa-ha-KEN-ya is a more appropriate pronunciation, IMO.

/Spanish Lesson.

Earthquakes suck, especially in areas with
Limited building codes

My heart goes out to them, it's a major drag to deal with
