Pirates trade Starling Marte for Justin Upton

Don't know whether it's true or not but this is what is being reported on Pittsburgh sports radio.

I've seen nothing on this anywhere - not even twitter. Can you be more specific than "reported on Pittsburgh sports radio"? Are you sure they didn't say this is a possibility?

It was being reported by someone from MLB. There was nothing about additional minor league guys either, just straight up Upton for Marte.

Pittsburgh is also in "serious talks" with Boston for Jon Lester.

Marte's a big-time prospect, but kudos to them IF they're thinking that aggressively. Their club has a chance to win, and it sounds like the organization is going to give the fans a legit shot.

Clearly this is a rumor and not a fact.

You'd think that 2 hours later, someone would have picked up on it if it were true.

Lets see, Marte is going to be a 24 year old CF with a 349obp in AAA. I mean, that is decent, but not near enough by itself. Probably would cost Cole and Marte.

Exciting kid with high potential. Definitely needs to get the BB/K ratio worked out, though.

Yeah, especially when one considers that Upton is the same age and comes relatively cheaply. Any deal between these two teams with these two guys as the principals is going to have to involve a major "+" from the Bucs. Why trade a cheap, proven talent for a guy who is not and is also the same age?

Re: Pirates trade Starling Marte for Justin Upton

It would probably cost the Reds Hamilton and Corcino combined plus 2 other prospects.

It would at least cost the Pirates Cole,Marte and 2 others. I think the Pittsburgh media is dreaming.
