Sunday 9-2-12 Minor-League Updates

Billings reclaimed first place by knocking off Missoula 6-4. Daniel Pigott's 2-out, 3-run HR in the first inning got it going. Winker and Amaral were both 2-5 with a 2B.

Joel Bender had a big-time start: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K. Mo Wiley picked up the save.

Pensacola's tied 3-3 after 12.

Sharky Rogers: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 8 K. ERA 1.99

Hamilton was 0-4 with a BB and a CS. He was replaced in an apparent double-switch. Bryson Smith had three hits for the second straight night, and he, too, was replaced in an apparent double-switch. Beau Mills has a couple doubles.

Looked like Bryson Smith strained his back or something in his last AB....He had the bases loaded with 1 out in the 8th I believe stepped out of the box in noticable discomfort after 2nd strike....Hamilton caught stealing was a absolute Hack call on the 2nd base umps part.....Rodgers fastball toped out at 93 was sitting 90-92 nice looking prospect imho.

Michael Griffin had a bit of trouble--four runs worth--in the 15th. Pensacola lost 7-3.

Louisville is getting stomped on. Redmond gave up six runs in two innings. James Allen gave up four in three.

The Bats lost 11-6 after the game was called in the middle of the 8th due to rain. They tied the franchise record for most losses in a season and can set a new record with their last game, which is tomorrow at 1:05.

Great development on the SP front. Not that Rogers is going to be a bellwether type at the major league level, but he does have a chance to be a BOR guy. This is the kind of depth you want your farm system to be producing behind the top-pick guys who you count on to make it.

When I watched him in Pensacola a few weeks ago I left quite impressed with him. Not entirely sure he can be a starter in the Majors, but more convinced that he can than I was heading into the game. Good stuff, good command, pounds the bottom of the zone.

That's a great point.

Starting depth is as good as it's ever been, IMO, in Cincinnati.

For next season, you've got each of the following as possible starting pitchers:
-- Cueto
-- Latos
-- Bailey
-- Leake
-- Arroyo
-- Chapman
-- Hoover
-- Cingrani
-- Corcino
-- Redmond
-- Villareal
-- Lotzkar
-- Rogers
-- Stephenson
-- Guillon

That's 15, each of which has enough positives to have at least an outside shot at starting at the major league level before the end of 2017.
