Re: Former Reds Pitcher, Frank Pastore Dies

I remember him mostly from Gary Burbank's "Sports or Consequences" show that used to air at 4:00 every day as Gary & the others would chant "Frank, Frank" whenever his name was mentioned, treating him as the show's hero. It was all in fun, but that is my lasting memory of Pastore.

RIP, Frank

Sad to hear, he was a stalwart of the Reds rotation during the darkest ages of Reds offense. Great, great guy, thanks for the memories Frank.

Re: Former Reds Pitcher, Frank Pastore Dies

This was the first baseball card that I kept because I thought it would be valuable someday.

While that never happened, I was very pleased that he found success with his radio show.

Sad to hear this. One thing I'd like to see more of on the site are the "what ever happened to" stories involving former Reds. Preferably before they pass.

Somewhere diners at a legendary Texas steakhouse mourn and eat a 3lb steak.

Very sad to hear this. A great Christian man, who touched many. He was on those Reds teams when I first started to watch and follow baseball. Prayers go out to his wife, kids, and family.

Re: Former Reds Pitcher, Frank Pastore Dies

While he never reached the heights of stardom for the Reds, he let his light so shine before men that men would see his works, and glorify His Father in heaven. While we fill up our barns so that we have to fill more barns, or storage units, or build bigger houses, it is good to know that Frank knew that his soul could be required of him at any minute (listen to the clip) and was ready to meet God, through faith in Jesus Christ.

While I'm sure Frank's family will miss him dearly this Christmas, Frank received the greatest treasure, and that is to be face to face with His Creator, His Deliverer, His Savior.

Re: Former Reds Pitcher, Frank Pastore Dies

I remember Opening Day 1980 when Frank Pastore stepped in for Tom Seaver and pitched a shutout against the Atlanta Braves. I was a 12 year old 6th grader and my mom allowed me to stay home from school that day.

Just coming here to post this. I was a Pastore fan from that moment on.

Wow. He must have suffered for a month before passing on. Motorcycles are life threatening. Not a good way to go

In his book, Shattered, Pastore describes his former career as a Cincinnati Reds pitcher, and how a line-drive hit ended his dream of getting "rich and famous" through Major League Baseball by shattering his pitching elbow. He also tells his story of how the incident was part of his testimony in accepting Jesus into his life.

I don't remember that. When did that happen?

I do not recall that but I do know he missed some time in 1980 after a great start....with an injury. He was also forced to go 9 a few times, when the bullpen was bringing gasoline to the mound during May or June....and blowing games.
He went 9 against STL while giving up 5 runs and probably throwing well over 120 pitches.
