SABR Baseball Biography Project
Since we've got about a month before Pitchers & Catchers report, I thought I'd start this thread for this great effort put forward by SABR, biographies of ball players. I came back to the site today looking for info on the Reds Red Lucas, the latest of my daughter's Every Reds Hall of Famer illustration project (http://everyredshalloffamer.wordpress.com/). The piece on Lucas was fascinating & I thought I'd highlight the site for folks' enjoyment. Perhaps others may share a particular bio they come across as you peruse the site.
Here's the link for the site. I'll respond to this post with the link to Lucas' bio and it can continue on from there. http://sabr.org/bioproject

Re: SABR Baseball Biography Project
SABR's Red Lucas bio was very interesting. It notes that Lucas' first win as a Red was a game that lasted only 70 minutes against Grover Cleveland Alexander. He was part of one of the best Reds pitching staffs in the mid to late 20's, clubs though that never reached the post-season. It begins with a the start of a poem written by Grantland Rice titled simply "Red Lucas, Ball Player". It was a leading pinch-hitter in his day, as my daughter noted in her blogpost on Lucas.
Here's Lucas' biography: http://sabr.org/bioproj/person/57b98b6c

Re: SABR Baseball Biography Project
Lucas played on the 1923 Giants, a team that had 8 future HOF players on its roster along with manager John McGraw.

Re: SABR Baseball Biography Project
WOY, I'd be interested in hearing your take on that mid to late 20's staff of the Reds.

Re: SABR Baseball Biography Project
Frisch and Bill Terry were the only 2 of 7 to actually get voted in and not selected by the Veterans Committee. Stengel went in as a manager of course.
