Quick question on night life and pre-game in Cincy

Hey everyone.

I'm doing a big weekend of Red games next weekend and we want to hit the pre-game tailgate and after the game nightlife. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was told before the game there is a bar right outside the stadium and then after the game Newport? Specifically, someone said this german bar? Any thought!

Thanks to all. I'm so excited about this weekend.

David

David:

Someone will invariably direct you to a few shady clubs in Covington and Newport. But I won't do that here.

I would recommend an evening at the Argossi riverboat casino. Good times to be had there, if you're in to that sort of thing.

You know what's funny is that as much time as I've spent in Cincinnati over the years, I hardly eat anywhere other than a Wendy's or something like that. I'd like to know other folks' recommendations on restaurants in Cincy.
One of my favorites is Jillians. I thought it had closed recently , but when I drove by about a week ago it appeared to still be in business because all the neon was lit up. Can anyone speak to this???

Good luck and hope you have a great time in the queen city!

The one in Newport is the Hofbrauhaus. Yes, it's german. Kind of can't get any more german- it's the only other Hofbrauhaus outside Munich. Been to both; great beer, good food. I'd recommend the outside beer garden.

Don't know about the one across from the ball park, but it does look like a lively place.

And I always plug Arnold's up on East Eight Street. It's about 3/4 of a mile north of the GABP. Friend of mine owns the place- oldest continuous tavern in town. Live music out in the garden is usually quite good and the food is great.

Hofbrauhaus - that's it. My brother and I saw it before, but I couldn't remember that name. Anywhere else?

Hofbrauhaus is highly recommended.

For pre-game, there is no where that compares to GameDay Sports Cafe on Pete Rose Way near the stadium. Big screens, cornhole, hotdogs and brats. Everything is Reds themed. It is my dream basement. Big bar too. They have two large rooms and pool tables. A must go!!!

You have Game Day right down from the stadium, and the In-Between right across the street. They are both hoppin' pretty good after the game.

Alot of times WLW will after their post-game broadcast from Game Day.

Gotta hit the Montgomery Inn Boathouse for ribs at some point.

Hofbrauhaus is top shelf, if you want to get loaded.

Those are 2 must sees every year for me and my wife...luckily she loves the city.

If you're going to a Business Day Special, there's a great little Mexican place up on Court Street called Javier's. Just west of Walnut St. right next to Avril Meat Market. Good burritos, quesadillas, black bean nachos. Not a big place, but I eat there all the time and actually stopped in there on Opening Day this year. I think he may be moving to a new larger place down a couple of blocks, but try him on a weekday afternoon game.

How about an excuse to visit Vegas?

Hofbräuhaus has been operating in Melbourne, Australia since 1968. Hofbräuhaus franchises have been opened in the U.S. (Newport, Kentucky, Las Vegas, Nevada, and soon to open in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania). There has been a franchise at the Bangkok International Airport in the 1990s for some years as well.

I doubt there's any watering hole outside the stadium more Reds-themed than Game Day.

There are some nightlife recommendations in the FAQ, too.

Then to really get away from it all, head up to Mt. Adams. Nice place to relax and see downtown.

One more quick question. We want to watch BP. How early do you have to get to see Griffey, Dunn, and the Reds to hit BP?
