Re: 8/20 Minor League Updates

Doc, I dont know if you were listening or not, but the announcers were talking about how the team wanted Ravin to throw his change up tonight. Kind of to the extent that he had been relying on his fastball often.

I think he's had just one start- against Durham on the 18th. He was lifted after four innings, allowing five hits, two earned runs and two walks while striking out four. Just 59 pitches. Both runs came in the first inning, as usual. Louisville ended up winning 3-2 late.

From the Louisville paper:
---
Right-hander Elizardo Ramirez pitched the first four innings but left with an apparent shoulder injury.

After the game, Ramirez said he felt some shoulder pain but thought he would be able to throw today. He said he probably could have stayed in the game but was removed as a precaution.

Re: 8/20 Minor League Updates

Joey Votto is having a big night: 3-for-3 with his 40th double, two singles, and a walk.

In the Louisville game, Brendan Harris went 2-for-3 with two singles. Harris is now hitting a solid .301/.370/.496 with Louisville. Maybe the Reds have caught lightning in a bottle again? First it was Lopez, then Freel, then Phillips, and maybe now Harris?

Billings update: Valaika extended his hitting streak to 27 games with a 2-for-5 effort.

How does Bruce's first pro season compare to Kearns or Dunns?

I love it that Bruce and Votto are double machines. Points to them gaining more power in the future, especially Bruce.

Can Harris play the outfield corners? We've got a week and a half to find out.

Harris is almost as a lock as a September callup; Votto is on the 40 man, will he be called up?

Re: 8/20 Minor League Updates

I was at the Dragons game today, and Jay Bruce absolutely obliterated that ball. He hit it over the fence, out of the park, and it bounced on First Street. I'm not sure how far it ended up, but it was Dunn-esque.

Carlos Fisher was shaky at first, but really got into a groove. He put up zeroes after the first two innings (Dragons defense sucks though, so they didn't help).

Saw a put-out I've never seen before. How's this for your standard out?

6-4-6-3

The shortstop booted it to the 2nd baseman, who tried to field it but flicked it back to short, who then picked it in mid-air and fired to first to nail Tatum.

Rojas was filthy in the 9th, striking out the side. He throws something offspeed (either a change/curve) that had every batter spinning in his cletes. If the stadium gun is accurate, he only hit 88 on his fastball, but his offspeed stuff was between 74 and 78.

Good day at the ball park. Awesome weather and a Dragons win.

No point. If he tops out under 90 or is shorter than six-foot, the future is dish duty, not stardom. Juan also has to fit into the framed pair of Roger Clemens' old Levis on my office wall.

Basically, he makes them look really bad. Jays season has been, well mind boggling considering his age and the level he is playing at.
