Padres Show Class At Local Steak House

Last night, Furman mentioned that the Padres went to the Jeff Ruby Steak House after they lost Tuesdays game. The total dinner bill was $6000 and they left a $2000 tip. (33%)

Piazza arranged this through his long-time friendship with Ruby (Lasorda connection???). I've heard he does it every year when whatever team he's on travels into Cincy.

Re: Padres Show Class At Local Steak House

Either they ate 16 steaks a piece or they had a metric ton of drinks because $6,000 for no more than 40 people comes out to like $150 a person.

Wow.

I guess I won't complain about taking my family of 5 out to dinner.

I've been to Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse a couple times and it is a class and primo place. But it is expensive. I expensed a business dinner for 8 and it was over $1K. I could rack up a $150 bill without trying too hard.

Wow.

So how much would dinner for two usually set you back?

You can not get a steak at the Precinct for less than 30 bucks. That's ala carte. Sides are extra. Desserts run close to 10 bucks. Throw in a 10 dollarappetizer and you're well on your way. And that's before you have a couple bottles of wine.

Wife and I did dinner for two there about 3 months ago and it cost us 105 bucks, including tip, and neither of us drinks.

Well, I'm betting the Pads had some drinks.

Dinner for two, a drink before, maybe an appetizer, wine with dinner, usually runs about $200 when I go there.

It better be.

Ruby's have been advertising on WLW saying it is their 25th anniversary.

It's pretty good, but not great, IMO.

I like the steaks at Longhorn just as well, at a fraction of the price.

My wife prefers the "atmosphere" at Ruby's.

We eat at Longhorn's much more often!

PS- Mike Piazza is a classy guy who treats regular folks very well; I've heard stories like this about him before; kudos to Piazza and the Padres.

Depends if your tastes run that way. It's a Power Big Deal Big City kind of steakhouse. Like a Ruth's Chris, Morton's, Peter Luger's, etc. kind of place, i.e. high class place, service, and food, but you pay out the ying-yang for it.

It's fun to go to once or if you're trying to impress someone. I thought it was great.

But I'm also cheap. We can go to Costco, buy USDA prime NY strips, buy a bottle of good red wine, I'll stoke up a hickory-fueled fire on my outside grill, and I can cook a steak just as good for 1/10 the price.
