I still think he belongs in the hall no matter what else he did. He played the most games, got the most hits, made the most outs and I think that should get him in. If there were a tiddlywink hall of fame, the guy who tiddlied the most winks should be in. |

It is incredible that in a society that is so forgiving to most that MLB is so hard-line in regard to these matters. I think that gambling is the worst poison for any sports game. Worse than alcoholism, drugs, etc (all are bad of course!). It can ruin a sport... plain & simple. Pete has every right to make a buck and I do not think anyone has said that he cannot. But making a buck in certain ways does nothing but hurt any chance to get back. And we should not forget that at one time (All-Century team, Jim Grey live interview, etc) it seemed that Pete had a chance to perhaps get enshrined into the Hall. No one knows for sure except Bud Selig. Joe Morgan and Mike Schmidt seemed to think it was close to happening. But what happened? The love of money.

So do you believe earning an "honest living" is someone lying to you for 16 years, then coming out and admitting they lied and will offer you the details once you buy the book from him?? Last edited by George Anderson; 09-26-2006 at 09:14 AM. |

Re: Pete Rose's quote
Pete belongs in the Hall of Fame. He doesn't belong in the Hall of Integrity. If the two are linked, somehow, they better start going over the roster again. Nobody can take anything away from what he did on the field. He didn't cheat. Didn't take steroids. He just played hard with the ability that he had. I have lost a lot of respect for Pete over the years, but I have also lost a lot of respect for MLB and the Hall of Fame. They have taken it too far with Pete and his rightful place in the Hall of Fame.

He's no different than your everyday used car salesman, should we lock them up, or some real estate saleswoman who tells you the house is in mint condition.

Re: Pete Rose's quote
THey should have asked Pete why he got Rob Murphy warming up in the bullpen five times a game, or why he felt that he was a better first baseman than Esasky

Re: Pete Rose's quote
My newspaper last Sunday had an ad for some quarters with "baseball legends" featured on one side. 20 different players were featured. There was a quarter featuring Ty Cobb, with Michigan depicted on the reverse side of the quarter, a quarter featuring Babe Ruth with New York featured on the reverse side, etc. I believe that all but one of the quarters also noted under the picture of the player the year in which in he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. The exception was the quarter featuring the only Cincinnati Red in the group: Pete Rose.
That's right---there was no Johnny Bench quarter, there was no Joe Morgan quarter, there wasn't even a Jimmy Haynes or Pokey Reese or Juan Castro quarter--but there was a Pete Rose quarter.
