Few Reds transactions 10/9

A few Reds elected free agency today:

RHP Sun-Woo Kim
RHP Joe Mays
LHP Chris Michalak
C Dane Sardinha
1B/OF Andy Abad
OF Dewayne Wise

Well, at least Sardinha HAD a major league contract at one time. When he was 17 and hadn't played an at-bat or half-inning in the minors yet.

Really sad day to see Kim, Mays and Michalak go. Sad for NL rival teams, that is.

I guess Sardinha isn't the catcher of the future....

No, let some other NL team pick him up.

Oh, and I figured this would be a good time as any to point out a Brewers transaction I noticed on rotoworld.com:
Brewers re-signed RHP Joe Valentine to a minor league contract.

First Balfour, and Valentine too? DanO influence must be strong in Milwaukee.

I am sure Dan0 is watching the Reds' transaction wire like a kid outside a candy store. Too bad for us he does not make the majority of decisions for the Brewers.

Minor point but I believe that Dane was drafted out of college so he was older than 17.

He was the West Coast Conference player of the year for Pepperdine when he was 21. Good call.

I like the scrappiness of filing for free agency a couple of weeks after passing through waivers. It has a certain "Damn the torpedos, full speed ahead" flavor.

No need to appologize. Were you possibly thinking of the infielder drafted (the same year, I think) out of a high school in Florida that later went to Detroit? I forgot his name, off hand.

If only Milton were on that list...
