Endless Wire - New Who Album

It was released on Tuesday. If I am out and about today I plan on getting it. It's been 24 years since the last album (It's Hard) of new Who songs.

"Endless Wire" features a number of tracks based on Townshend's online novella "The Boy Who Heard Music." It also includes a 10-song mini-opera, "Wire and Glass," centred around the rise and fall of fictional band the Glass Household

I read yesterday that Townsend was researching and writing the material for this album when he was "popped" for visiting those child porn sites.

Re: Endless Wire - New Who Album

Gees... I never realized that Zak Starkey (Ringo's son) has been playing with the Who for about the last 10 years, and has been the full-time drummer for The Who since their 1996 Quadrophenia Tour. That's wild!

Keith Moon and Zak, who was an early influence on him, and also bought him a set of drums, along with a few lessons to boot.

Does he look at all like his Dad in this pic? Wow!

Zak played drums for Joe Walsh the last time I saw him...at least 10-12 years ago. Good drummer. Great show.

I had thought Kenney Jones was still The Who's drummer, but Wikipedia set me straight. Kenney left the band in 1988.

I'm far too young to have an 18 year-old misconception. My only consolation is that Kenney was the drummer on their last CD.

Re: Endless Wire - New Who Album

I guess he was/is the drummer for the band Oasis too, and is a very sought after studio drummer.

My age is showing. I remember when he was born.

Re: Endless Wire - New Who Album

Anyone ever get the chance to listen to "In The Studio" with Redbeard. It's a radio show out of Dallas. I listen to it every Sunday night on 104.7 out of Dayton. He has some really great shows/interviews on classic rock bands and the ins and outs on the "behind the scenes" details on various classic rock albums.

Last month I listened to a very good show with Townsend and Daltrey, as well as vintage audio clips, on the album "Who's Next".

Here's his website.....

His show on Pink Floyd "Dark Side Of The Moon" and also the Beatle's White album were reallly good.

I saw Zak play with Johnny Marr at Johnny's gig in Louisville that I referenced on the "What am I listening to..." thread. Zak also played on the Healer's album in 2002.

I don't know if he's still with Oasis, that band has had so many lineup changes I can't keep up. Like playing with Liam and Noel would be difficult or something...

Re: Endless Wire - New Who Album

I was in 8th grade when Zak Starkey was born. I remember thinking how the name "Zak" was the weirdest name I'd ever heard of. Those days everyone was Rick or Nancy.

Little did I know that many years later, my first born would be named Zach. Go figure.

It wasn't my time, so I can't ***** all that much. But it sure seems like The Who would have been better off if they quit after Moon died. Bonham and Zeppelin might be the best example of what to do.

Zak was fantastic on the last Oasis album "Don't Believe the Truth" -- probably Oasis' best album since Morning Glory, IMO.

Re: Endless Wire - New Who Album

"Endless Wire" was also the name of a Gordon Lightfoot album in the 70s.

I thought Face Dances and It's Hard were very solid albums, and far superior to the last couple of albums the Who did prior to Keith Moon's death.... "Who By Numbers" and "Who Are You?". There were a few good songs on those albums, but overall, IMO, pretty weak efforts. I agree that Keith Moon was one of the best drummers that ever lived, and that any drummer utilized by the Who afterwards could never duplicate or replace his influences; but the body of material written by Townsend after Keith died, I feel, stood up pretty good.

I agree, it was very good--I liked it a lot. Didn't get as much press here, but then again I wouldn't expect it to.
