Nationals Add 10 Scouts, Including LaMar

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Former Devil Rays general manager Chuck LaMar was among 10 people hired by the Washington Nationals on Tuesday in an overhaul of the team's scouting staff.

The Nationals also gave scouting director Dana Brown a contract extension.

Lamar, Tampa Bay's GM from 1995-05, will be a special assistant to Nationals general manager Jim Bowden.

The other additions to the scouting department were special assistant to the GM Moose Stubing; special assignment scouts Bill Singer, Kris Kline and Bart Johnson; and supervisors Jimmy Gonzales, Jeff Zona, Tim Kelly, Tyler Wilt and Steve Arneiri.

"I am very pleased to add these 10 gentlemen to our staff, all of whom have solid reputations that are well-known throughout the game," assistant general manager Mike Rizzo said in a statement. "I feel the Nationals are now equipped with one of the premier scouting staffs in baseball."

Singer was fired from his job as a special assistant to the general manager by the New York Mets in 2003 after making racially insensitive remarks to an executive from another team. He comes to the Nationals after three years as a major league scout with the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he worked under Rizzo.

The laughter and seismic activity from West Central Florida is TeamClark laughing uncontrollably.

Jim Bowden has no clue anymore. The only thing he'll ever lead the league in is Special Assistants to the General Manager.
