Spring Training invites announced

per Marc:

Quote:
Though many of the names on this list already have trickled out, the Reds finally released the list of guys they have invited to major league camp.

Among minor leaguers already in the organization, RHP Homer Bailey, LHP Michael Gosling, C Ryan Hanigan and IF Paul Janish will be in big-league camp.

As for players signed to minor league contracts and invited to camp, you've got C Miguel Perez, OF Dewayne Wise, IF Anderson Machado, RHP Tom Shearn, C Ryan Jorgensen, LHP Jason Kershner, RHP Victor Santos and C Dan Conway

In other news, Dr. Tim Kremchek examined and X-rayed Ken Griffey Jr.'s broken left hand over the weekend and found it to be healing as expected. Griffey will be examined again in about 10 days.

"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

So Gangrene has set in and amputation is likely?

Nah. They've probably cut it off already. You know how news trickles out with the Reds about injuries. God, I hope Big Klu is over that pulled muscle they were talking about last week.

Interesting that Janish got an invite. Didn't expect that.

I would be willing to bet that most of the "shoppoing" is done until ST starts. Someone would have to overwhelm Wayne with a package of ex-Twins to make a deal now.

Apparently the Pirates optioned him in October and he opted for Free Agency. I don't recall seeing anything on signing him, so it must have just happened.

Re: Spring Training invites announced

They're still negotiating with Guardado, and if he's signed, it would be a minor league deal.

It's pretty much expected that EG and Mercker will be back on minor league deals. One year with options, first year mostly rehab for Merck, the second he can pitch again. EG will be back in July if I understand it correctly.

Just my take on cobbling together various reports.
