Which sports record least likely to be broken?

Which of these records is most likely to stand the test of time?

I was actually considering putting a *don't vote for Cy Young* disclaimer, as I think it's a given with the landscape of the game that one is untouchable.

Re: Which sports record least likely to be broken?

Will White's 75 complete games while pitching for Cincinnati in the 1879 season looks like a fairly safe record to me. He won 43 games that season as well-just ask RFS62, who I believe was in attendance for most of them.
Note--I believe the "RFS62" stands for "Reds Fan Since 1862"; I know, I know, the Reds were formed as an all professional team in 1869, but cut the guy some slack.

Hopefully Bonds gets indicted and he has to quit 21 homeruns into the season and that record becomes the hardest to break.

If he does get it, then I'm really going to become an A-Rod fan, I tell ya. He needs to hit 50 a year for the next decade.

I say Ripken's streak will never be broken, for the simple fact that it isn't necessary to play every single game for 20 years.

Re: Which sports record least likely to be broken?

If I didn't read the first couple of posts on this thread first, I would have voted "other" and voted for Cy Young. As is, I'm going with Gretzky. That's second in line of the "untouchable" list for me.

That, and the fact that luck played a huge part in Ripken's streak.

Yep. You hardly see players playing a full 162 games...you'll never again see one who does it for 20 straight years, or whatever it was.

Whoops, thanks for the update Highlifeman. Now, can you help me with my swing, too?

Anyway, I still think it can't be touched even if it isn't majors. Heck, Tiger got just over half way there and it was a big deal.

I think the Nicklaus record, while also untouchable is almost a little too esoteric. It just doesn't have the jaw dropping inprobability for the casual fan that, say, 56 games in a row does.
