While it is true that not every affiliate station complies with Major League Baseball's requirement to de-activate their online audio stream whenever baseball is being played, I don't know whether it's such a great idea to be encouraging people to circumvent MLB.com's system for legally listening to games over the internet.

While that may be slightly true, I think its ridiculous that becuase I dont live in a city I cant listen to a radio stations broadcast online simply because there is a sporting event on it and they want to make money. I live in Cincinnati so I can pick up WLW fine, but I personally think its stupid that they have to disable their internet feed becuase they are broadcasting a Reds game.

Kind of like MLB wanting to own Statistics used in fantasy leagues. I think that is up there with the most ridiculous things I've ever heard.

Let me guess does MLB also own the music to the 7th inning stretch? and charge royalties for that too?

It may be stupid, but it is the right of Major League Baseball to dictate how and where their product is distributed. The agreements that stations like WLW sign to broadcast games include provisions that specifically reserve internet broadcasting rights to MLB. They choose to charge for those rights. You can call it stupid, just like you can choose to call anything that costs you money stupid, but that doesn't give you the right to steal content or promote the stealing of content.

IMO, its bad for RZ to have people and posts promoting this sort of thing -- just as it was bad for RZ to have people posting copyrighted content from BA on the minor league forums.

Good points. Still...

What makes it so hard for me to swallow is that MLB seems to do whatever it can to limit it's exposure to it's dwindling fan base. The prime example of baseball's lack of common sense was it's attempt to stop people from using Slingboxes to watch their teams when away from home. Sure, people could use the devices to let friends in other markets see games but come on...

I just used this for the WLW feed. They cut it out and switched to music after a disclaimer saying XM won't let them air the game.

I guess I'm gonna have to break out the staticky radio again.

Gameday Audio is only $14.95 for a full year. I suspect people who can't afford that also can't afford an internet connection.
