Sports Talk Rumor

A unrelated Reds rumor but one that gave me quite a chuckle. It seems Toronto was looking to add a starter to it's rotation. The Jays inquired about Leiber from the Phillies. The Phils said Leiber could be available but they wanted Alex Rios in return. I almost swerved into oncoming traffic when I heard that. Maybe the Jays would take Milton for Rios.

The day the Reds get Alex Rios from the Toronto Blue Jays for Eric Milton is the day the 7th level of Hell freezes over.

Milton to Toronto for a case of Molson, a bag of milk, 2 cups of Tim Horton's coffee and a Wayne Gretzky 8x10.

Rios is going nowhere...he had 82 RBIs in 450 AB, hit .302, 17 HR, and 15 SB. They say he is a guy that could explode this year.

Sounds like what people were saying about Austin Kearns after his rookie season. They are still waiting for that explosion.

How about Milton for old pal Royce Clayton?

I can't wait to see some of the heads exploding over that one.

I would drive Uncle Milty to Toronto in my car (I would even pay for gas).

One problem... the Canadian authorities. They'd figure out who was with you in the car at the border/checkpoint and make you turn it around and go back to the United States (more specifically, Cincinnati). Even having a fake ID for Eric might not do it.

Do you have anything to declare, sir? Fruits, vegetables, currency, left-handed pitchers with a propensity to give up the long ball?

If Kearns could steal 15 bases in 450 AB, that would be something. Rios got hurt last year, but he has a history (albeit brief) of staying healthy. Rios is in Leatherpants terms, "a five tool player." We all know how those players often turn out.

Yeah, I agree... his goatee this year is looking much better. It would be unwise to trade him now.
