Re: Your Favorite Baseball Card Images
![]() Perhaps not my favorite, but a player that I seemed to get in every pack I opened during my younger days. I am sure we all had a Manny Sanguillen type that we didn't want, but always seemed to get 15 of them during that season. I used to laugh at the "paint job" cards too. The ones where players were traded and Topps did not have a pic with their new hat; therefore; they took the liberty of painting the new hat on. The technology then was nowhere near believable and the "paint job" looked bad.

This one - but without the airbrushed black over the end of the bat.
![]() My father and I found two of those that year - still have them stored away - I pull mine out whenever I need a good laugh. Someone really punked Ripken that day. |

Re: Your Favorite Baseball Card Images
From what I gather based on conversations on XM Radio, he may have "punked" himself on that one. Apparently players sometimes write crazy things on the knobs of their bats to make them easily recognizable in the bat rack.

Real men don't wear batting gloves (like Sanguillen too!).

Re: Your Favorite Baseball Card Images
![]() From The Great American Baseball Card Book: "How do you suppose they got those baseballs to stay up there? Scotch tape? Postage stamp hinges? "And why do you think Gus is giving us the high sign? Is he trying to assure us that everything is OK? Is he indicating that he thinks the Athletics are a big zero? Does he want a cinnamon doughnut to go? "And why is he wearing a pink undershirt? "And what the heck is it all supposed to mean anyway?"

Re: Your Favorite Baseball Card Images
I don't know, but I have that baseball card and it is one of my favorites, too. By the way, I like the "Chico" card in your avatar. The 1967 set is one of the most beautiful sets that Topps ever produced.

![]() I always liked this one as a kid. I don't exactly remember, but it probably had something to do with the funny look on his face.

Re: Your Favorite Baseball Card Images
![]() Another gem from The Great American Baseball Card Book. The authors suggest that in the background photo he is attempting to catch a bag of chicken salad sandwiches being tossed down from the press box....lol.
