Yankees call up Hughes

"Cashman is bringing up Phil Hughes, 20, the best pitching prospect in baseball, simply because it made no sense for the top pitcher in the organization to be getting outs for Scranton when nobody on the big league club could do so with even half his efficiency. Hughes, on Thursday, will become the team's ninth starting pitcher in the first 21 games of the season."

He will not be up for long, but just to fill in until their other starting pitchers are healthy. Of course, if he impresses, he might stay for good.

It probably should have been 3 earned but he looked good. His curve and change are pretty good, and his fastballs is 90-94. He can add and subtract and is pretty good with control. Obviously not his best night and they won't get many innings from him with the 90 pitch count. He has a bright future but im sure everyone knows that. I can't wait to see bailey, this just gets me more excited. No need to rush though.

Best pitching prospect? No. 2nd best pitching prospect? You know it.

I disagree. He left runners on first and third with 1 out and he was getting hit hard. It may have gone even higher had he been left in. Hughes struggled a bit with his curve tonight, but his change up was better than expected. He didn't touch above 92 after the first inning, which I found strange. I like what he brings to the table, but like I said before he started, he isn't ready just yet and is there out of sheer necessity.

Yea, i just meant the cairo play that should have been in out. But you are right that the bullpen bailed him out also and he was getting hit fairly hard. I though he would throw a little harder too but his curve was very good. He definately was rushed as you said.

Re: Yankees call up Hughes

His curve had good movement, but he wasn't throwing it for strikes as much as he usually does.
