I was going to make the joke that you couldn't do this "drill" at Somerville H.S. around the corner from my house, because in a class of 30, there's bound to be 2 or 3 kids with a glock hidden in their gym trunks.

Actual acts performed by my grandparents on their seven young children many decades ago:

1. Gramma hiding on top of the refrigerator by the back staircase in a witch's costume with a broom, jumping out on the stairs and screaming when her toddles came running down the stairs

2. Grampa buying a fake hand, hanging it just outside a dresser drawer, and taking my then-four-year-old aunt upstairs to show it to her and tell her "Mommy's in there."

3. Grampa buttoning up his coat over his head and sticking his hat on top of it when walking in the door from work (ie. "headless dad")

Actual act performed by my 70-something gramma on her grandchildren maybe one decade ago:

1. Climbing a tree to settle just outside my cousin's second-floor bedroom window and making scary noises.

And many, many more I can't remember off the top of my head.

And we're all fine. Of course, the guns, the terror, the official drill and the school sanctions do kind of all distinguish this incident from even my crazy grandparents.

To be really technical, the Chattooga River splits Georgia and South Carolina. I've rafted it. So Deliverance took place on both sides. Not sure which side was the "Squeal like a pig" side.

They filmed a lot of it in Tallulah Gorge too. Pretty place.
